Which oil filter?

Hi guys, as you all know I'm about to change the stator and reg/rec on my little money pit, anyway I'm going to change the oil and filter as well, but how do I know which filter to get? there are 2 (that I can find) "standard" and "long":banghead will they both fit?

Oh and full or semi synth?

No , There`s a short filter and a long filter. There was a change from short to long , when I don`t know.

Filter: look at the shape of the filter cover.

If it is relatively "flat" then itsthe short one.
If it is domed then it is the long one.

If your not sure :

POST A PIC UP OF YOUR COVER......

They are not interchangable.

Oil: Semi synthetic.

Manual says 15/50 for the UK, tho Griff at AP 'recommends 10/40.

Can't go wrong with either.

oh wasn't expecting a choice of oil weight. that makes it easier.
I'll have to have a look at the cover tomorrow, there's no light in my garage :unhappy

As felix said 15/50 or 10/40 semi, apparently the usual UK temps dont require the use of 15/50 plus I always found it awkward to source locally.

I've bought a new gasket for the generator cover, do I need gasket sealant as well?

No need for sealant.....

Surface needs to be clean tho..... use a plastic gasket scraper if needed..

Dunno if I mentioned using threaded rod or long bolts with the head removed..... I use4 or 5 to help keep the gasket in place and stopping the magnet of the rotor pulling the cover to one side when putting it back together....

I use a Hiflo oil filter on my T. The long filter is a HF 564. Hope this helps :thumbup

If I was you I would always use fully synthetic oil it has better heat dissipation qualities that imo help reduce the risk of stator failure (Excess heat causes the insulation between the stator winding to break down) not wanting to start a different debate here but I have a 12 year old Tuono that has not needed a stator, always had fully synthetic oil.
