Where's the redline?

When I picked up my '99 RSV, the battery had been off and of course the dash had gone back to default settings. So where should I set the shift light, bearing in mind I'm gonna cane the bugger..?

No more than 10500 and never hold it on the limiter for very long if at all.
These bikes arnt rev monsters you are best to short shift and keep it in the fat part of the torque band , youll have a much better ride and see off most things (I still reckon theres nothing to match the low to midrange stomp of these beasts)

got mine set for 9500 to stop it hitting the limiter and keeps the power in. Cheers Dave

Same as a TL1000 then, I thought they might have eked a few more revs out of the Rotax lump. Never mind, as you say there's plenty in the middle to play with. But hell, if I've paid for a whole bunch of revolutions I'm gonna damn well use 'em. The priller's not made for shopping runs...

The TL1000 is a better engine but the rsvs chassis is waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better

Can't disagree with that. I loved my TL, it's the reason I own another big twin now. Not had a good chance to rag the RSV yet, but I can feel the breeding already.

Our twin plugged models have too small a valve area to be able to rev , you van get more revs from the single plug models but overall the engines are simply bot designed to rev unless you spend big money.

Okay the TL had more ponies and similar torque but you couldnt use it in that chassis/suspension combination.

If you want to liven it up drop the gearing (as an indication a 16/44 combo at 9800rpm is good for 142 mph over the start/finish line at Brands Hatch)

I had my TL sorted, handling-wise, but it didn't feel as lithe as the RSV does, I'm looking forward to giving it a bash. Not done a trackday for donkeys years, but they're definitely on the cards for next year (money permitting of course).

I've already been told about the gearing, and did the same to the TL. It's in hand...

A "zone" trackday at Brands .......................bring it on :thumbup

Ah, but that TL lump happened to go into one or two other frames where it did handle. Bimota SBK8............and the Cagiva version is such an under rated bike, prolly the best incarnation IMO. If you wanted the TL I'd definitely check that out.
