Hey guys,

Just got back into biking after a couple of years out, and coming from a GSXR600. Anyway, went out for a ride today on my todd (as there doesn't seem to be anyone from Newcastle to ride with!), took a while but managed to get my knee down again....but when I tried the old wheelie, no luck. Anyone got any tips for wheeling these twins?

Ta,

Anton

P.s...anyone ever fancy a ride out in Newcastle give me a shout!

Sit to the back of the bike, as far as your ass can go an open the throttle.

Or you can put it around 4k rpm, clutch in, revv it, let go od the clutch, but dont let go of the bike.

ps. im no wheelie expert, I know how to to it, but usualy I do it by accident :D

or downgear to 15/44T and watch how easy it comes up off the power in 2nd gear ;)

They come up easy i get mine up 1 2 3 and if you sit as far back as pos 4 just pull off in 1 then change to 2 open throttle and then off and snap it back on fast she will come up

another rider from newcastle

hi anton iam from wallsend give me a shout when ya going out and i can meet up with you or i will let you know when we are going out and we can meet up mate

cheers
keith

Pulled it twice off traffic lights. Normally by accident and in anger, but scares the hell out of me.

What about stoppies???

:thumbup Hi from Cali. my 02 rsvr millie comes right up I have a 44 rear and it comes up with no problem 1 2 3. just take your time I have mine comming up when my knee is still on the ground comming out of turns ye ha. my 07 has stock gearing and she comes up you just have to have the rpms up and let her go remember to have your foot on the rear brake just in case ride safe .:cheers

Well, it my dream as well bro! All my wheelie's are not planned and just happen. I remember reading a thread for wheeling a V twin and it said. First get used to riding in first gear at 3 grand and accel. quickly to 5G. When accomplished, next step , when at 3G and trailing the back brake (this part I could not understand) , flick the clutch and simultaneously throttle to 5G. pos. ,brake off and your doing a wheelie! Foot over the rear brake ready to use if your up to high. When coming down throttle for a smooth landing. I give myself lessons occasionally and usually just give up content with just normal blasting. though one day hope to wheelie with skill maybe! It is dangerous and needs to be done with care and whats above is just what i read one day. Somebody out there knows the correct way? More info appreciated , Steve.:thumbup

Hey factorydude and apriliamoto! Would love a ride out at some point. Sorry not been able to post for while due to competing uni finals. Off on holiday for couple of weeks as of wed too, so i'll give you a pm to see when your around when I'm back for a blast!

A mate of mine wheelies his 07 Tourno everywhere - that's why it's only done a few thousand miles and is in for a new clutch:eatcorn

15/42 gearing on mine atm comes up on the power very nicely, never managed a clutch up because i always chicken out... it just doesnt seem like a natural thing to do

i have learnt a little trick to making power wheelies alot easier to acheive, get a feel for what the suspension is doing, the front of the bike naturally rises under acceleration and drops under deceleration, when its already risen (for example you are already zooming along at speed) it is harder to get the front wheel off the ground, if however you accelerate slightly, say in first gear up to about 20 or 30mph, close the throttle so the front moves down a bit again then give it a bit of stick it jumps up alot easier

hope that makes some sense, if you are gonna try and wheelie deliberately make sure you find a suitable place and are mentally prepared (back brake good... lean forward good... front brake useless...) and take things steady because causing the bike to wheelie higher than you intend is scary as hell, i can never predict how the bike is going to wheelie, probably only wheelie crazed riding gods can

2nd gear, 35mph, a tickle (really just a tiny tickle) of clutch and a gentle roll on the throttle and it will come up. Whilst the gas is on with the wheel in the air push up on the gear change for 3rd (no clutch now) let the gas off just a whisker and back on really quick and it will clunk into 3rd. Let it down carefully because by now you are nipping along a bit. First few times it will touch the ground on the change and come back on again but I bet if you practice 10 times you will do it all in one:thumbup

i get down to the wildfoul meet when i can, mostly on a sunday, might see yas there, the northern mob that is

Dude take Billy up on his offer...............the f*cker wheelies for Newcastle...........:thumbup:thumbup:devious

Pulled a minter tonight on the way to the pub - they've just flattened out what used to be a vicious humpbacked bridge that I used to slow down for, been over it a few times at normal speeds and nothing, went over it tonight at 90 (gagging for a beer) and up she popped - nearly kacked meself.

that is the way i learnt at the jimmy fireblade wheelie school, but have not dared try it on the mille yet :dunno

I'm glad to read that you all sound like you're as intimidated by this as I am. I hang around some guys that seem to do it often and easily and I always have felt like I should know how and not be scared. Seems like there's alot of potential for disaster as far as figuring it out as you go is concerned. :)
