Wheelie deflates tyre ??

B

What do you think - can this happen
So last night after a pretty rapid ride back from Squires, everything felt A1, hard cornering - front end solid as anything no worries... :thumbup

Last mile or so before home, left the traffic lights pulled a cheeky 2nd gear wheelie (like you do) not massive but Ok then as I'm approaching a roundabout front end came down pretty hard but not a real crasher (i'm no wheelie demon and have crashed down much harder in the past).
Anyway into roundabout and front end felt aweful - really bad like a puncture, bars really sluggish and bike wanting to drop in, backed off and limped home. Last 2 or 3 corners just like the roundabout really horrid front end.
Checked pressure and 13psi!!! :dowhat:dowhat

So my question (eventually!!) can a hard landing wheelie deflate a front tyre to that extent?? :confused:confused
Pumped tyre up last night and has held pressure overnight so I dont think I've a puncture and can see no sign of damage.

Yup it sure can, the hard landing can actually force air out of the valve which will then leak.

Thanks for the prompt response Kiwi. What do you think the prognosis is for the valve then, does it need to be replaced or just keep an eye on it for a few miles / rides to check???

Not necessarily the valve as the pressure is staying up when re-pumped (although a possibility) but if the seal from tyre to wheel was not perfect (i.e. rough edges on wheel paint) then it won't take much to force the air past. Also there's not a lot of air in them anyway so won't take much escaping to reduce the pressure that much, especially when the air is up in temperature

said all along 'that beechys a hooligan' :biggrin

Hi matey....I've experienced the deflation of tyre, not as a result of wheelying but from 'spirited' riding, only on the front, but it appears to have been the valve letting air out via centrifugal force. Cured by 90 degree valve...however, I've not had a problem with current Mille, which has decent valve caps on with rubber seal. I'm sure you haven't got a major problem.

Thanks for the responses guys - basically as I see it 2 no cost options.
1. take it steady for a few miles check the tyre pressures and handling feedback till full confidence is restored :rant
2. keep the front wheel up in the air :devious:devious

As i'm not that hot on wheelies (certainly dont get through the gears etc) its got to be option 1 :thumbup
Probably get myself a 90 degree adapter ASAP for belt and braces aproach
