What's That Rattle???

My bike makes an awful death rattle when you accelerate from very low revs- it sounds like the chain is slapping, but I'm sure it's not as the tension seems fine. It's an 03 Mille RSV.

I normally ride around the problem on the road, but when it was put on the dyno and had to be loaded up from low revs it was awful.

The grumpy ****** who operates the dyno (apparently called 'Grumpy') just mumbled about the chain 'being fooked'.

Anything obviously wrong, or do they all do that, sir?

PS Someone reccommended a good dyno in the Southend/Rayleigh area- where was it again?

It's not a Harley you know! They do run rough at the very bottom end of the rev counter - are you running standard gearing? Might help to lower it if you are doing a lot of town riding.

A-ha!!! That was it, Robin Hooker Racing. Lovely stuff- thank you.

As for the death rattle, I've gone up one at the back and down one at the front, although in hindsight I wish I'd gone for something more extreme.

I don't do much town riding so it's not a huge issue, but the fact it was happy slapping on the dyno worried me.

If they all do that then I'm fine.

So, what did the nice dyno tell you then:eatcorn

And what state of tune, apart from fooked chain:nana is your bike in?

lol... so you met Grumpy... he's pretty happy & chatting on some days... he use to own a B12 with a turbo & nos !!

what did it do on the dyno mister !? :devious

did it rattle before the gearing change... are you sure you put the front sprocket on the right way round as it might be running offset... not calling you stupid*... just seems a common mistake !? :dunno

When I took the bike in it was completely standard- even the gearing.
According to Mr Grumpy it was 120.5 bhp- my 2007 R6 with PC3 and full Micron system (albeit baffle in) was 115.4bhp.

This was about 5 weeks ago, and since then I've added a Fuel exhaust, early model collector box, airbox conversion and a Dr Rossi chip. Oh, and the Renthal sprockets!

It chugged like anything before at low revs and if anything is better now, so think the pinion sprocket should be on ok- but I could see that being a possible issue.

I'm hoping to get it run up on Saturday to make the comparison. Also riding at Brands Hatch Thursday so I'll try and get some lap times and pictures!

seem good numbers for standard... be nice to see a comparison... peak figures might not be alot more... but im sure the middle bits will be bulging now !! :biggrin

i have an 03 and mine does it aswell. its worse when the chain is loose but still there a bit when tightened up.

Yeah, I think it's worth me tightening the chain a little. It's perhaps marginally too loose, but only by a fraction. That'll be a job for me first thing tomorrow morning then...

On my 00 it has to be 25mm anything more it "rattles", but then I am running with a really short wheelbase :devious
