What's that little box thing?

It looks like a little plastic box 4cm x4 cm x3cm with a metal base. it is attached to the battery retaining plate and sounds like it has a loose screw rattling inside. It has 'upside' on the rubber mounting. What is it for??

Thanks........

Think they are fitted to all bikes, possibly not in the same place but should switch engine off if ya throw ya bike down the road.

Thanks for all the replies.....
I have just replaced the battery and it is taller being a 14 instead of a 12. The little box was mounted on the battery retaining plate which I have had to do away with. I have just velcro'd it to the battery. I thought it may be an alarm sensor. I guess I will have to sort out a more secure mounting.

Thanks once again.

Had a tip over switch that went bad on me a year or two ago. Wondered why it didn't make any noise when you rattled it so opened it up once the new one arrived, out of curiosity more than anything else.

It was full of Spearmint chewing gum.

Sure it wasn't a tic tac

How did you know the flavour was spearmint? :devious

Simply by the smell!!!. :biggrin

Apparently it's a common bodge if the sensor goes bad and starts activating when it shouldn't. You can't just unplug it and remove it, taking it out of the equation as the ECU notices some sort of drop in an electrical output/signal from it and if it ain't there - the ECU wont play ball. So to get around this when it goes tits up, some folk open it up and fill it full of sealant or in my case ( perhaps it was an emergency repair when out on a run? ) chewing gum.

So there you have it folks - always carry a packet of chewing gum with you when out on yer RSV. Spearmint or otherwise. :nana

Well that's something usefull to carry at all times without filling up the storage space :thumbup

I believe it's usefull if you need to bodge a petrol leak as well.

You can't beat a solid grounding in old British bikes LOL
