What shall I do to break up all the red?

Hey :)

I got my mille a few weeks ago and I'm head over heels in love with her already. Only thing is.. she's so RED!

I want to stick some tat on to it to break it up, make it my own (it's very original at the moment). Carbon side panels are nice, but I photoshopped them onto this, and it's way too much black in one area I think, looks out of place. I've been thinking of going the same was RSV_Ecosse and putting post-01 side panels on it, do you guys think they leave the tank looking a bit bare and unfinished? What would you lot do in my shoes? I'm contemplating a carbon front mudguard as well to break it up... Does Boyler do the carbon ears to fit pre-01 bikes yet?

Stuff I've already decided on/done: A black/dark tint double bubble, got my pillion seat on the way (£90 off ebay! had to be done though, other half was getting humpy), gonna get some carbon swingarm protectors and maybe heel plates from Rawtech as well.

I've got an Aprilia Racing Ti can for it as well but it's just too bloody loud, going to go for a Fuel/Scorpion or similar when funds allow.
Any ideas welcome :)

This thread's also an opportunity just to show off my spanky pretty new bike, she's immaculate apart from a few (heartbreaking) scratches where she fell over before I got her. I've changed the stand for a CBR one already, much safer now.

Here she is :

I kinda like this color scheme, just remove the micheling fatty

Get blue leathers and it wont be all red when you are on the bike :)

I took the Michelin chap off, and just as I was about to I thought 'I bet there's a big scratch under this from where it fell over'...

Did it anyway, and guess what I wasn't wrong :jack

if you have the rsv ti exhaust check to see if it has the chip in the ecu got one on mine never too loud can keep it quietish when needed

Same as mine, more or less.:thumbup:thumbup

Looks nice mate. ( less is more )

I don't get it. You bought an rsv in red but don't like the red:dunno

I think it looks luuuuurvely in red. Have you thought about the RSV decal from say an 03 model?

I love the red!

I just want to make it my own, buy a couple of trick bits and wanted opinions on what'd go best - and if there's anything that'll help the look, I think it's breaking up the expanse of red a bit :) I like this colour scheme more than any of the others. You know what it's like, new toy and I want to buy some bits for it, thats all. Not much, but a little. I don't think I'll get the ears, I'm not sure how they'd look and I don't want to go hacking up my fairing, but I'm definitely up for carbon swingarm protectors and heel plates.

I reckon i might go for the RSV decal, RSV_Ecosse's one has one on it, I can't work out whether they were standard or not. I've seen some with them, some without, but mostly without.

w00p same model and coulour as mine mate, nice one :)

plenty bits and peices you can stick on these bad boys

Don't go sticker mad there fella, you've got a lovely looking original RSV Mille there. Some subtle changes will give a whole new look.

Along with your new Aprilia Ti can, maybe go for an Aprilia or Boyler's carbon front mudguard, Boyler's pre 01 carbon ears and a carbon rear hugger. Ditch the IP tank protector for either an original Aprilia black one or a quality carbon one. Some carbon heal plates and a fibre-lite carbon dash surround and the excellent MRA smoke/grey tint screen would be pretty good place to start.

See here for inspiration on how to can be done right. This bike is the same model and year as yours

I think it looks lovely in red, perhaps just put on the later side panels with the mesh to help break it up? Can that be done?

Red is very itallian, and an Aprilia RSV is a poor mans Ducati after all...

oh dear i can hear the onslaught of upset rsv owners on its way....

i think the aprilia is better than the ducati ..i mean who would have rubber bands turning your camshafts?

I don't want to do lots of stickers, I'd only **** up putting them on anyway :D Might stick a couple on hither and thither but in general I like the colours how it is. I just want some doodahs to put on it :D

Aw c'mon, who would choose an RSV over a yummy 1198 if they were the same price?
Sure they have rubber belts, but then they don't have old fashioned springs that close their valves...

Or sprag clutches that fail, or back brakes that barely work....

The RSV isn't a bad bike (obviously) but it just isn't the itallian thoroughbred that a Ducati is.
I mean an Austrian engine?
Aprilia RS250, japanese rgv engine! Aprilia did cheat a little with their 90's sports bikes!

My mate has an 1198 he had a 1098 before that.............

He owned the 1098 for 11 weeks , 6 weeks of that it was in the dealers waiting for parts to repair..................the faulty electrical system.

The 1198 he has owned for 5 weeks of which hes ridden it for 3 , the rest of the time he has been waiting for a new stator and reg/rec.

To be fair he also has a couple of Ferrari's , a Porche and 2 Mercedes so broken vehicles dont really bother him :)

Mines red an'all but i must admit the side panels look better on the later models with the mesh. Change the can and chip and keep things simple.

You can ride it harder if you dont personalise it too much. Or put some tassles on the bar ends and a skull speedo, or a cross shaped back light, hard tail and sissy bar>:thumbup:devious
