what model?

D

deano

hi guys looking to buy a rsv in the next 2 weeks but have come across various age bikes all at similiar prices..

question is what versionshall i get

2001 rsv

2001 rsvr

2004 rsv whichi presume is the last of the old shape

2005 rsv which i presume is the first of a newer shape ??

what is the better model and why??

love the 2001 shape big a mean,,,,,the 2005 shape i like but not setting my heart on fire but its growing on me :thumbup

olde style...00-03 brilliant engine braking, mid range grunt, 04-onwards sharp looks, rides like an in-line4, try them all and decide!!!!! They're all Italian!!

The 2005 shape actually came out on an `04 plate bud, if you know what I mean, so the change was in `04, and not `05........:thumbup

Strictly your choice mate; beauty is in the eye of the beholder, an` all that.

I prefer the post `04 to the pre `04, but I suppose I would.........as I`ve got one ! :biggrin

Still love the pre `04 though, so I`m sure you`ll be happy whichever.

the newer shape was introduced in the UK in october 03, the model stayed the same for late 03 and 04 and 05, the bodywork changed again from 06 onwards, 98/99 and 2000 models are the same then they changed in 2001 and stayed the same till october 03:thumbup

Ah.........cheers Badger; teach me to keep my gob shut before I get my facts right !

I just presumed that the model-change was in 2004, as all the stuff I`ve seen, ie parts catalogues etc, quote for the 2004 model onwards......

I presume you can actually pick them up on a `53 plate then ?

Anyway, I bow to your superior knowledge........:biggrin:thumbup

My 04 factory track bike is on an 03 plate:thumbup

buy a 2004 new shape, dont get the old bulbous shape its old hat :eatcorn

the old shape pre 2004 millie is not worthy of the aprilia name. its bulbous heavy and very old fashioned. steer clear of this old type bike if you buy one everyone will laugh at you for your silly choice of bike :eatcorn

Early shape Milly's are mans bikes, later models are the hair dresser's equivelant, hee hee. The older shape has got a big following & are a bit easier for the home mechanic, choose is yours bud,Ive got the very last old shape,Mille R 03 withe the radiel brakes,******* awsome ,but I am biased.
same as Griffs,but mine cleaner,!

the early model is the poor mans version, only buy if you havnt enough cash for the later model, wich has more power better looks, and better technological advances

Go for the later model if you can afford it - You get more power from the nice mag motor :thumbup
Youll keep up with the more modern inline 4s better (in the power stakes)
Ive got a shabby 01 Mille because it was the best funds could do - but if more funds were available would probably still have got an RSV but as new as they would stretch :biggrin

Not too sure if any of the RSVs would be up to the inline 4s for power........except for the RSV4 :thumbup

C'mon Vinny what's with the bike slagging. :dunno

Your getting peoples back up here

You don't like the old shape, then don't own one but respect the people that do mate.
What your calling old dated hat for skint people is someone elses pride and joy.
Whether they have money doesn't come into it.

I really hope you meant it tongue in cheek.

Hmm, may as well read buy a blade.... I just had one a, a blade that is making near 160bhp at the crank much faster than the 04 rsv probably handles a bit better too. I sold it and bough a '99 rsv and have ten times the fun, the bikes comfy enough to tour on still goes like stink and i use allot more of the bikes capability. Doesn't really look old has to me and if you can ride it to the edge of its potential you probably should be making money at it. **** what year it is buy the one that tightens your testicles the most.

Good post Dan, and one which I fully agree with ! :thumbup I would imagine that Vinny is only on a wind-up, as well, with his comments.....relax gents. :cheers

I know exactly where Dan`s coming from, and although, as I said earlier in the thread, I prefer the later shape (which mine is), I can still appreciate the beauty of the original Mille. For instance, just look at the "contenders" in this month`s " bike of the month"; both Sensei`s, and Gasboy`s are phenonmenal looking bikes that, whilst modified, remain true to the marque, and are an absolute credit to their owners :cool2, and then have a look at the later bikes, like Mahoney`s, which again, is a credit to him, and you have to appreciate that Aprilia showed some major flair in the aesthetic department when they designed BOTH bikes.

So yeah, Dan has it absolutely right when he says that it`s the one which tightens the old testicles the most, that you should go for and then take a bit of pride in knowing that you bought the one that is right for YOU !! :thumbup

Enjoy, gents, we`re all winners here...............Aprilia made sure of that !!!!!

:stupid

I go away for the weekend, and someone has to start trolling along in here? Shape up or we'll cut your freaking head off!!! Arrrrgh! :pirate

I actually like my shape/style of bike the best, it's a 2000 plain mille, no wind deflectors, no ohlins bits, no swanky extras of any description, it's the plainest one... and it's honestly my favourite. I didn't consider any of that when I bought it, it just came up and was a cracking bike for the money so I got it, but all I knew at the time was that I was completely in love with it. Since I've been reading up and learning more my mind hasn't changed one bit, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

You can't buy an RSV that's not an absolutely corking bike, so I wouldn't worry too much and just buy the one you fall in love with.
