what is the "code" for

2015 capanord just purchased. Trailered it home. When I started it saw a blinking code light. Owners manual discusses it but with no context for its purpose. Ideas? Thanks
 
Just follow the book and enter your personal code and it will go away. A security issue to do with coding the keys I think. Page 46.
 
Thanks. Saw that in the Owners Manual. Couldn't find anything in the manual about the purpose of the code. I found a Youtube video last night which showed setting the code and said the purpose was to provide a backup security access should the chip in the key fail. Makes sense I guess.
 
Just be sure you have it recorded somewhere as the dealer will need to know the new code if you have re-set it (I haven't bothered).
