just bought/picked me RSV 02 up tonight... got onto north circular... sitting @ 4-4500rpms felt very happy & smooth... changed to 5th gear & it didnt like it in the slightest... felt really chuggy... i didnt even bother with 6th... so 4th gear for about 8 miles... with occassional playing in same gear to hear the THUNDER !!

as for 30mph... i spent it mostly in 2nd !?

Check out the gearing - they come over-geared from new to meet the noise regs and most people gear them down. I'm running 16/42 but many people go more radical than that.

I had exactly the same issues.

Go 15 front 42 rear and prepare to hang on tight.

If it's lumpy at low RPM then adjust out virtually all the free play from the throttle and check out our DrRossi's EPROMS, mine was a nightmare round town until I fitted one of his EPROMS and adjusted the throttle cable free play.

My 05 is hunting at 30 in 3rd and over revs in second but i still have the standard gearing gonna sort when sprockets need changing .

Think the later models have different gearing so sprocket tooth advice above may not apply.

yeah cheers for that am just gonna drop a tooth on the front as am told this is good enough on mk2:thumbup

thanks guys... definately a 42 on rear... will check front tomorrow... so 15T is fine... the chain wont run to close to the swingarm ??

if i fit the 15T... how much slack will there be... as the chain & sprockets are new !?

Hi mate, I changed my front sprocket from standard 17 down to 15 & left rear at standard 42. Made a difference BUT still looking to change rear to 44 when I get a new chain. The 15 front just needs wheel moving back a touch on standard chain. About the 'feeling' in higher gears...these bikes will pull from 3k revs, I've found that having the bike in a gear higher than I think it should be works well especially when going into bends, so that there's plenty of 'head-room' when accelerating out of the corner:thumbup

I recently fitted a 15t front sprocket to my 03 Mille but left the rear as standard 42. What I have found is this. As far as town/urban riding is concerned it has been a revelation. No more slipping the clutch in traffic or when taking off. Also the bike gets away much sharper. Excellent low cost mod that transforms low speed handling. However, the downside for me is that at 70mph + in 6th I keep trying to change up to a gear that I don't have! Will it help if I change the rear sprocket to say 44? and will that cancel out the other benefits?
