What do you guys recommend for petrol 95 or 98??

Not too sure if it could damage valves etc using the wrong grade?:dunno

I always use 95RON and have to say it's runs fine.

Once I used 98RON Super Unleaded as the normal unleaded had run out, can't say as I noticed any difference, apart from the larger hole in my wallet.

95 normally but if doing a trackday will fill up at least 2 tankfuls before the day with 98 , then run 98 all day.

That was on the R1 the difference was on 95 would get 135 miles until reserve , after running 98 as above would get 160 miles until reserve..................

The reason for asking was I read on a car forum that the guys were getting alot more mileage with the 98Ron.

Which Magazine recently published the results of their testing of 'super fuels' in cars and found that they made virtually no difference. In one case they measured a reduction in power using Tesco super unleaded. The oil companies are disputing the results but they would!

Some high performance engines are designed for use with 98 ron fuel but most are designed to run on standard 95 ron petrol. My own logic is that if the fuel mapping is set up for normal petrol then it is a waste of money using the super variety.

I do have concerns about using supermarket supplied fuels. My understanding is that most of them have a percentage of bio ethanol (alcohol) mixed with the petrol. Alcohol isn't as 'energy rich' as petrol so this could result in reduced power or less mileage than full 100% petrol. having said that I'm probably like most people in that I'll source my fuel wherever it's cheapest!

It was which magazine I think.

Anyway agree with the above 100%

One of the bike mag's (PB I think) got their Street Triple to run on alchohol (Apple Juice base), after quite a bit of work they got it producing slightly more power but and here's the big but...
It still needed an amount of petrol to get it started, the fuel lines had to be replaced because the new fuel was caustic and one of the by products were anhaldides which are extremely poisonous !!
Oh and theres still 100 billon barrels of oil under the Antarctic:)

the books says 95 dont it, do americans have 98?? 95 probably is super for them

dont see how you can take advantage of a better fuel without changing the timing??

or having a bmw style knock sensor
