I've recently fitted a YTX14 to my 2000 model, and yes the battery sits a bit higher, but i've not had any problems from it. The seat clears it....just :thumbup no electrified backside problems yet, although I hear some people will pay good money for such things :dowhat

Rawly,

I agree with Caterpillar. I fitted one about 1 year ago now and not had any problems with it. My bike always starts first time of asking and I do not have an optimisor. Plus, I have an alarm.

I'd also recommend fitting one of these YAMAHA part # 4KD-81-940-00. Fitted one to mine this week and tried out the old YTX12 battery that has been dying on me and it fired straight up without a struggle.

what is that part ??

It is a starter relay Rawly, that sits just behind the battery tray. It is rated at 12V 100A instead of the standard 12V 50A.
