"And we never had a whole Mars bar until 1993"!!!:thumbup

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO WERE BORN IN THE
1930's1940's, 50's, 60's and even early 70's

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while
they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon
and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes
or cervical cancer.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured
lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and
when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the
risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds
, KFC, Subway or Nandos.

Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on the
weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE
actually died from this.

We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store
and buy Toffees, Gob stoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up
frogs with.

We ate biscuits, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with
sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were
back when the street lights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then
ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built
tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at
all, no 999 channels on SKY ,
no video/ dvd films,
no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat
rooms...........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
Lawsuits from these accidents.

Only girls had pierced ears!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in
us forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time....

We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or
rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!
RUGBY and FOOTBALL had try outs and not everyone made the team. Those
who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
Getting into the team was based on
MERIT
Our teachers used to hit us with belts and gym shoes.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!

Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiora' and
'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla'

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW
TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL !
And YOU are one of them!
CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow
up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives
for our own good.

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how
brave their parents were.
PS -The big type is because your eyes are not too good at your age

:thumbup Yeah! Memories, playing cowboys and 'Native Americans' with air rifles. 'Split the Kipper' with a real knife. Dislocating a thumb playing rugby and the PE teacher putting it back in place and expecting you to play on. Thye good all days before health and safety brought this country to it's knees. So that political correctness could kick it in the balls. GREAT POST by the way! :thumbup

My missus read this with me and asked if i had written it ? all very very true , but i bet you dont know what tublatting is? its a piece of wood from an old barrel[wood back then not ally] you nailed a piece of plywood on the back , a piece of wood at front for your feet and went down the hill on it, preferably very wet and very muddy, we had a soap works at the bottom of the estate and used to smear unperfumed [stinks of fat] soap down our muddy gully to make tublat go faster, used to go home when dark , arse ripped out of pants , covered in ***** [ and i mean covered] have a slap of me mum , share a bath, once a week or less if poss a jam butty and of to bed. happy days. ps boggies[pramwheel carts ] are quickest if big wheels at the back oh and especialy yellow ones! That was the year I left school. I remember going to watch Pink Floyd "Live at Pompei" then sneaking in to see Emanuelle. Happy Days

We got loads of clips round the ear from the teachers and local copper. The teachers never bothered us much but the copper demanded respect and he always told your old man if you didn't tow the line.
Playing in the woods, airguns, catapults, football on the wreck every sunday morning (about 20 each side), playing with the dogs that were always about, cinema on saturday morning with a film, cartoons, etc., the brilliant bands and records and clothes and fashions, jobs for everyone (you could literally pack a job in on friday and if you knew what you were doing, start a new one on monday) and we did this. Camping at cadwell, oulton, mallory park, brands, snetterton etc. When we went to cadwell in the autumn (me, my cousin and our dads), me and my cousin always used to be shitting it on the way back cos my uncle and old man used to stop to nick a couple of bags of spuds (if they were there in the fields). Pedos were called perverts then but were few and far between, probably cos of no internet. Kids played out all day and parents rarely worried they would get molested. We won't see this kind of freedom again. Riding motor bikes in fields and woods at about 12 years old upwards is one of my best memories tho. We always had em and shared rides with them who wanted a go. How many of you got into bikes this way?

Not sure about the worms and mud pies tho....

I remember riding for the first time on the road on a 750 interceptor protection then was sunglasses and shirt sleeves just lent off my mate before I actually was legal.
NO crash helemets there were not LAW
The only way you got nicked was if you actually got stopped.
No ID pictures on licences
Rode my 250 Ariel Arrow on L plates also a 650 com on L plates aged 16.
Got tought the highway code and beware of traffic speed limits not slowed the cars to avoid kids.
Speed limits were as fast as you could go no 70 top end.
Petrol was 4shillings and 11 pence (25p) for a gallon and garages were shut on bank holidays.
A bag of chips was 3 pence saturday pictures was 6 pence

God I now know I am OLD

I can remember when insurance cover notes were filled in by pen i used to get insurance for a 100cc and change it to 1100 to get the road tax to ride a bigger bike the good old Norwich rider policy. And you could fill the FS1E up for £1.5
