Guides Walkthrough / guide for replacing cam-chain tensioners?

How To Guides
Why do you want to change them, PITA to get at, just set the piston of the one you want to remove at TDC undo the bolt & pull them out.

I suspect one of them has given up and chain has permanent slack since the engine has started to make clacking / rattling noise even when it's warm. It definitely sounds like cam chain rattle.

I red the front tensioner is a pain to get out, so what is the best way to unscrew it from?

Also.. how to set piston to TDC position? Do I need to remove something to see when piston is at it's top most position?

This is why I asked for walkthrough :D

You insert a locking bolt into the crank to hold it at TDC, think you best get a Haynes manual or maybe someone can point you in the right direction for a down load, thought there was one on here but can't find it!

Haynes website only shows manual for 2003 and older. Also they didn't have one here in local book shop.

Well, I just go and try to manage to deal with it once the new tensioners arrives :p

Think there's a guy near you ..well finland anyway....on af1 forum who has built a few engines...go over there and ask ..may get more help

Hehe, Finland is pretty big country (geographical), but will place the question to AF1 forum aswell, thanks.

When I did mine I used a cut down Allen key (10mm if memory serves me right) - wasn't too difficult. It's been a few years but I think I took the water pipes out between the cylinder heads aswell. You can get a Haynes for pre-2003 - I've got one.
