Very high charging voltage

Hi all,

During the week i had a problem with a melted brown connector between the Voltage reg/rectifier and the alternator. I was told this was a common fault and to replace the connectors and away you go.

Well i replaced the connectors and all seemed well, BUT, now i notice that there is appears to be an unusually high charging Voltage of 18.5 and rises and falls with rpm, but even at idle there is about 15v and this is with the lights and cooling fans on.

What are thoughts on this problem? Faulty voltage Regulator / rectifier?

Cheers,

Norzilla

ps if can get this charging issue fixed this week, i have the Dyno booked for Friday morning.... :doug

Yup reg/rec is toast, but also test the the stator ouput should be around 85 vac across each phase.

Multimeter to AC Volts (200 VAC setting) connect the mm to the center pin of the brown connector and then to an outside pin, start bike take reading at idle, then increase to around 4k revs. Repeat for the other pins (centre to left, centre to right, left to right)

Ok. How do i test the VAC ?

Tested the VAC : 80VAC on each wire, so the VAC does not suck!
I have reg/rect coming in the post!
