Valve clearance costs?

So I've got my 12K miles service coming up which involves the valves being checked and adjusted if required etc.

I've been quoted £600-800 for the whole thing, is that about right? Seems a bit steep. Does it also have to be done at an Aprilia dealer?

Thanks in advance.

any decent mechanic can do it think aprilia performance charge approx 450 for the major service inc shim check...they are worth the ride to tamworth

Or get a few like minded aprilia owners and host a service day and they will visit you

If you're confident with a spanner then its fairly easy to check them. It's just a ball ache to get to the cam covers, as the tank has to come out of the way, air box off and radiators off on a Gen1 (not sure on a Gen2 and V4). I got quoted £280 by the local bike mechanic up here but I went and did them myself.

£600 - £800..... that sounds like a "Wheels" price !

depends on what they say they are gonna do... (wheels) say they change every fluid etc etc etc for that price. Also, some quotes are for a valve check only - they would charge extra if they need adjusting as i believe they then have to take the cams out to change a shim (if they are too tight then they mite have to do that twice as they dont have a starting point)

Make sure whoever you go with that its clear up front what is included and what isnt.

+1 on the "Aprilia Performance" - great bunch and you get to watch & learn so much about your bike too...

:)

oh..... if you dont do em yourself, make sure you get the rear suspension "dog bone" bearings greased too !
