Valve clearance 12000 mile service

Hi all, is it compulsory to get the valve clearances done on the rsv1000r 2006 model at the 12000 mile? I have had many bikes in all my years and never had it done on other bikes.

I was lead to believe that if the valves dont make an excessive ticking, leave them alone.

Any thoughts please?

Ticking valves are not a problem, quiet ones might be though!
Up to you as its your bike but I would not skip a clearance check myself as if they go tight (less clearance) which is more likely than going loose (ticking) you can burn the valves out causing loss of compression and power.
I checked my Mille when I done the service as a matter of course. no cost involved except your time.
I had a ZX6R which had 11 out of spec (too tight) at 15,000 miles.
