I remembr reading somewhere that we can use a decent car oil in our engines is this true as I cant remember the outcome now :dunno

Ignore them Tim, It's fine mate.

PS. Your RSV can run on diesel you know and pink fairy cakes can be used a brakes. LOL

Can you tell I've got my sarcastic head on tonight??

I have used Rock Oil in mine this time 15 50 Semi, supplied to my door by the local lad in Durham (He supplies the garages etc in the North East) £24 for 4 x 1 litre bottles

Guardian Sigma is designed specifically to meet the
individual requirements of performance 4 stroke
motorcycles, having the highly sought after JASO MA
approval is testimony to this. High revving superbike
engines produce almost double the horsepower per cc
compared to a car engine. Guardian Sigma has been
formulated to protect these highly tuned engines with
integrated gearboxes, while allowing wet clutches to
operate correctly, even under the most severe conditions.
It is suitable for all models, high performance 4 stroke
applications and meets or exceeds the following
specifications:

JASO MA ACEA A3 API SJ SAE 15w50

Seems like good value and its made in the UK (well blended) :D

Car oil is for cars, motorcycle oil is for motorcycles. They are formulated differently to cope with different working condititons inside your engine. Why would you even think about putting in some car oil designed for some low revving, low state of tune, car engine. These are highly tuned, fine tolerance vtwin motorcycle engines. Rock Oil Guardian Sigma is an excellent choice of oil for our bikes

I would not dream of putting car oil in my bike, run aquip tec 4t in mine. Good bike oil and regular changes are a must for long engine life in my book.
When i had my blackbird (bike):biggrin. I remember a thread going on the blackbird site about regular oil changes can do more harm.
To cut a long story short, someone who knows about oil and its make up,said that oil have cleaners in it,which work for the first 4-6000 miles.Thats why you are waisting money buying engine flush, unless you dont change your oil for ages.
He said the down side to changing your oil too soon,is that you will always be running it with cleaners in,which brought the debait ,its bad to change oil very regular.I was always always in the school that changing the oil often is good, but this makes you think.:confused

I always use putoline force4 15/50 MOTORBIKE oil . :thumbup

I sell car oil so is really very easy for me to get hold of but its not worth the risk of engine damage for the sake of £20 !!!!!

Saying that if i was stuck with no oil and had no option i would go with any oil is better than no oil but this is the last resort of last resorts.:eatcorn

I once watched a dim local lad using washing up liquid as oil when rebuilding his bearings and cones on a bicycle .......

Finding 15/50 oil here when you need it a pain in the arse. No sir we do not have that oil in stock, would you like me to order you some.
I try and keep a couple of litres in the garage for a rainy day and about 4 litres of 10/40 car oil for the missus.
As for brands, I normally go for what is cheapest at the time and a brand i've heard of. Never brought oil like Mr Cheapo water mix Bike oil :) but still try cheap.

Try Opie Oils..........they seem to have a good selection at competitive prices and fast delivery.

and if the forum joins you get a nice discount too. Get my discount from them from zx-9.net. about 5-10% across the board :)

get mine from the local Yam dealer, if he aint got any 15w50 he gets it in for the next day, being as you have to order the oil filter usually its not a problem

here in Cali I'm using Shell Rotella T 15/40 (white bottle ) along with another fellow RSV rider in Florida.if you want to go synthetic you can also get the Full Syth Rotella T 5w-40 version(blue bottle) . These oils are JASO MA compatible eventhough they either might not have the certification or the wording on the bottle or not officially approved for it... If you need 15w50 try Mobil-1 SUV/Truck Synthetic5w-40 !!! Yamalube is Jaso MA. Just Do not use JASO MB !!!
On the back of most oil cans is a circular stamp with the certification. Avoid oils that say "energy conserving" in the bottom half of the donut. These oils contain friction modifier additives that could cause clutch slipping over time. All XXw-20 and XXw-30 oils are energy conserving, and should not be used in your motorcycle.

* MA = Non Slipping Oil
* MB = Slipping Oil

This is very controversial as far as I know and some Busa and goldwing owners achived ridiciluously high miles without any clutch/motor problems with car oil. I spent a way too much time to find this info to come up to a sollution. It doesn't cost the corporates and the people who say it's bad for your bike to use car oil however I just cannot afford paying 10 dollar difference on oil change. :)

here's more info if you want to read about it.

hope this would help someone in the future, I'm happy with my Rotella T it runs smooth with it and it costs about 15 bucks for an oil change after a complete flush for about 4 quarts + 1 quart bottles
