using an RSVR on track

any advice?

Stuff like - where to get track bodywork, suspension set up, tyre sizes(180 or 190) etc.

I currently run an ex race RR5 CBR600 as a track bike but fancy giving the RSVR a whirl.

Having not even ridden it on the road yet i'm unsure what to expect. the last twin i had on track was an SP1 and i really struggled with it. too soft at the front and too jerky at the throttle.

Done a couple of track days on mine and it was great but won't be as nimble as the CBR.
Think there's a track fairing in the for sale sections (old shape).

my mate had a tracked SP-1 for a while and said they're all very jerky on the throttle. The Mille is much better.

I use ARD bodywork http://www.ardracing.com/
The quality is OK (some of the panel seams are a bit uneven) and it does the job.

I would say the most important thing is to get the spring rates correct. I weigh in at 113kg (R2R) and the stock springs were giving me understeer problems (bear in mind that the Prilly is designed for a 75kg rider). The damping should be able to cope, but needs tuning (the stock 'race' settings are a good starting point).

IMHO, the stock RSVR should be a match for most/all I4 600s, but don't expect to stay with I4 1000s. Similarly, you should be able to keep pace with 999s, but you'll get shat on by 1098s.

Standard gearing is way over the top. Given that your UK circuit max is likely to be 145 or below, your first step should be a 15T front sprocket. Then 15/40 or 15/42 can be used with the standard chain. Changing the sprockets won't change your acceleration, but should ensure you're in the right gear for most corners!

I found that Dragon SuperCorsas just weren't sticky enough and have not regretted moving to Racetec M1/M2 (same as Diablo SuperCorsas). If riding in the wet, get yourself a rain tyre; I use Pirelli Rains.

All in all, the RSVR is a good package and goes well straight out of the tin.

Try to book with someone who has an onsite suspension expert (Someone like 100%Suspension). These Apes really benefit from a proper setup once done the handling is sublime and you can push as hard as you want without worrying about what its going to do next.
And as an ex SP1 rider (like me) you'll understand just how you can use the engine for late braking....freaks the il4 boys out as you start braking 10-15 yards later than them.

Just wish my RSV had the same power as my old SP1 :)

cheers. some good info there. Having not ridden it yet i'm getting ahead of myself a bit! suspension will be the first priority I think as I'm @ 92kg bollock naked. I'll ride it first to see though. My CBR600RR is set up pretty firm and works brilliantly on track. But then it doesn't have to do any road work!

1st task for the Aprilia is a 1000 mile round trip to Donny for the moto GP. Just hope it's comfier than the SP1 or i'm screwed:eek: And after reading all the stuff on here i'm also hoping that it holds together. with brakes, clutch, brown connectors and white connectors to worry about I'll maybe not get out the drive!

don't think they'd let me on though. not with rossi et al hogging the track:smilie
