2014 v4 on virgin tour, 4100 miles. flawless, except 2 unsettling instances: cruising along, out of nowhere the bike loses power & 'urgent service' flashes on dash. pull over, turn off bike, restart, in 3 miles, message disappears & bike rides normal. happened at 1100 miles, again at 2900. nothing strange about conditions. if i was passing, or in a tight spot, could've been dangerous. any ideas on this one?? help!

Most likely oil pressure sensor fault, its the rubber bung above the oil drain plug, make sure its pushed on, but people have had issues with dodgy sensors.

Go onto MENU in the dash and scroll to DIAGNOSTICS it will ask for the dealer user code which is 12412, the go to the fault screen.

It comes up with ACTIVE (current) or MEMO (old faults stored) and an X next to them if there is/was an issue and a O if there is not.

Fault codes are:

DSB 01 - Immobilizer fault: key code read but not recognised.
DSB 02 - Immobilizer fault: key code not read (key not present or transponder not working)
DSB 03 - Immobilizer fault: aerial not working (open or short-circuited)
DSB 04 - Internal controller fault
DSB 05 - -
DSB 06 - -
DSB 07 - Oil pressure sensor
DSB 08 - Oil pressure sensor

You can delete errors by resetting them but only once you have really diagnosed the issue.

Hope that helps.

curious though: why would a diagnostic issue kill the power to motor? seems awfully dangerous at wrong time...

If the issue is serious, like a loss of oil pressure killing the power would be preferable to seizing the motor.

Yes its enough to kill the motor, if for example the oil pressure swtich was faulty it would kill the power for the reasons in Spykes comment. So as I say it needs investigating but at least you know how to have a cursory look yourself.

You are not the first to have the power die for urgent service errors, and to be fair not heard of that many that are the end of the bike, throttle position sensor TPS are another issue that occasionally pop up, I know of people who are on their 3rd TPS and a couple of guys who have had faulty oil pressure switch issues.
