Hi guys
Be very grateful for any advice.
Supposed to be picking by first Aprilia up tomorrow but have been awaiting these photos of a damaged panel which i have just got this morning.

Any one give me any clues as to how much this will cost to repair as in either a respray or a new panel including decals and where i could source the decals.
The bike is an 04 factory with 12800 miles on the clock. rest of the bike looks in good condition and the bike is up for £4295

Guy at the dealers says it looks worse on the photo's to what it does to the naked eye but i suppose he would say that.

The bike is coming from Preston super bikes. Has anyone had any dealing with this place and are they any good?

Thanks in advance.

I reckon you'll get a better one for that money, look around a bit more matey.

it doesn't look that bad m8 you can get the decals from aprilia parts online, at least all the marks are on the silver panel so some work with wet and dry and taking it to a spray painter to paint i should be okay for £140, but i'd get money off the bike better still buy one thats in good nick....

Just had a look on ebay m8 and you will pick one up wi less milage and in good nick for the same money theres even one the same colour just search for rsv 1000 factory good luck.....

cheers for replies guys. My only problem is for me to get an RSV iv gotta trade in at a dealer and the price for a dealer sold one doesn't seem too bad. Rest of the bike is in really good nick so I'm thinking I might go for it and get a full fairing kit off eBay from Hong Kong and make it unique. Another advantage, i want to start doing track days so if i get another full fairing set i could stick this one back on for the track days just incase lol

Good idea m8 but youve got to watch any aftermarket fairing they are always a dog to fit and dont come with the heat resistant foam that you'll see on the original one ,some of the ebay bikes come from garages and any garage will take a bike in trade they are all desperate for a sale so there are bargains to be hard but be prepared to walk away don't seem to eager i know it will be tough because you just want to ride it .......good luck either way m8 and make sure you put good rubber on her for the trackdays they like to squirm about under power.....

The foriegn fairing kits are crap mate. they don't fit very well and are not as strong as O/E. they wobble and flex alot. i would save the pennies. as one of the guys has said it would be no more than £150 at the most to respray, much better and you wouldn't notice it. Dealers are a bit more and you get good peace of mind but having said that i bought mine private as i am just plain tight fisted!!;-) cheers mate

Picked the bike up yesterday as got a good deal on the trade in and went for first run today. What an amazing bike. Only issue I had is the rear brake is none existent. I know everyone complains about the rear break but to the extent that it doesn't do anything? gonna have a look at it tomorrow and have a go at bleeding it but not holding my breath.

another thing that concerned me, its was quite warm today and a few times today in slow moving traffic I notices the temperature gauge creep upto 105 degs c surly it shouldn't run that hot?

Dont be too concerned with that temp in heat and traffic, as long as fans kick in and keep it in check. Try bleeding the cooling system, trapped air can cause it to run hot as I found with my 02. Not sure if the later ones are the same but mine was an arse to bleed, eventually though I got it down to running about 90 ish in traffic. Was about 105-107 before.

You can stand on my rear brake and it is just fudge.... led to believe this is normal. lol dont use the thing anyhow the engine and front does the work. suppose if all else fails it will end up in a bush..

lol, lets hope its a soft bush then. Iv always had the habit of just using the back brake when riding slow with junctions and roundabouts and such just to scrub a bit off. Ill get the bike ticking over in the garden today and get it up to temperature to see if the fans cut it. probably end up with more complaints from the neighbours with these cans on. only had the bike home an hours and had 2 complaints. miserable gits......

lol mine is excessive, had to take the baffle out anyway as it runs nicer. the neighbours dont seem to impressed or the rest of the village but i have to put up with a crappy cg125 put put starting up every morning a 6am by next door so think fair is fair lol lol just rev it up and tell em cant hear anything as your deaf!!

well I have to put up with their dog barking at all hours so they can knackers. had bike running to day and fans checked out ok. cuts in at 96 degs and turned off after temp dropped to 93 degs so I'm guessing temp raising to 105 after hard riding then slowing down in slow moving traffic is normal? also got back brake working but not sure how good until I take her out again.

Steve,

If you want the panel repaired and stickered I used The Plastics Surgery in Malvern, his work is top class and his prices are very cheap for what you get, he can even plastic weld panels back together and replace any lugs that shear off if you take them. He gets replica stickers which are identical to Aprilia orginals but at a fraction of the cost. Well worth the petrol to drop oiff the parts and pick up at a later date.

Enjoy the twin!!

Hi m8 glad your enjoying it Temp thing is quite normal on 2nd gens but beware somtimes its caused by a sticky thermostat easy fix tho as for the back brake some folks change to racing .5 fluid this helps but short of putting rearsets on that move the resevoir away from the exhaust ,a good bleed is the only other thing to try on the later models you have to remove the rear caliper and turn it upside down to make sure the bleed nipple is at the highest point or buy a vac bleeder and give it a good bleed but to be honest it always ends up ***** again try the fluid change its probs the cheepest mod,but anyhoo youll soon forget all that ***** when you get the hang of givin it a handfull and you''ll fall for it big time......

Cheers for all the info and advice guys. Got to be the most helpful and friendly forum iv ever been a member of.
