Hi Folks. I'm new here. Just bought a new 2019 Tuono Factory and given I live in Scotland the Supercorsas must go (unless I only want to ride on the handful of dry days we get a year ;)). I need something that can handle all weather and will keep the Supercorsas for the track.

Thinking Michelin Pilot Road 5 (means sizing down to 190/50) or Metzler Sportec M9RR (can stay at 200/55). Anyone running these tyres? Any better suggestions?

Cheers all.
Zappy.

Hi Fella living in Scotland yes those supercorsa have to be trackday tyres or only use your bike for 5 days a year when its warm and they are great , I have had 4 sets of Road 5 's on my 17 factory have to be honest not really a hard rider but have given them a bit of a good thrash they can wear out a bit odd . I am on Bridgestone S22 for this summer same league as the Metzeler about 1500 m in not to sure at the moment yes you will have no chicken strips on the back very easy to the road 5 met a few guys in Spain last summer on the 5;s and they said how do you get these to the edge they where on R1, super duke, blade, k1300 and all did trackdays .the s22 i need to play with the pressure at slow town speeds finding bad white lining 33 front 38 rear so could just be me . On the 5's i ran 34 front 37 rear,i will be going back to the 5's hope this is of some help. i believe the supercorsa is really only a 193 not 200 so for the road a 190 is good in my head . i think you have to be honest with your self with tyres most people over tyre and for us in the UK the temps are important i have been in the wet in Wales at 3c Italy at 37c and in Spain last summer bouncing of the red line in bends in 2nd traction kicking in on 3 all on the Road 5's

Thanks mate. Appreciate you taking the time to answer. Metzler seems like a good choice but more people running the Road 5 it seems. Will probably go for that.

If your a metzler fan I would give the new 9 a go the 5 would give a few more miles and move the water a bit better in bad weather

I'm not a particular fan of any tyre brand really as some brands/tyres just work better for certain bikes so I've never has a favourite as such - just try to pick the best tyre for the bike and conditions I ride in. This is my first ever Aprilia so I have no particular leaning to anything in particular. I am not a fair-weather biker and don't have any issues riding in the wet or cold, as long as I have confidence in my tyres.

Hi Zappy i few things about the Road 5's when they are new i have noticed a small wollow /weave and it is only small , mid bend and has been upto 3 times it happened on one pair once or twice on the other 2 , and one set went on a novice trackday first bike day for me but have done 30 car days there so know the circuit and no weave , i have also read other people have reviewed them and said about a weave for me in a couple of hundred miles never happens again almost bedding in .They wear on the outer compound both front and rear you see them sort of concave past the joint of the compounds i have never felt it riding . On the rear when worn down to 1 mm above the closest to centre wear bar some white lining will start . So that's the stuff i have noticed oh and i get pissed of riding with the other guys that run supercorsa's because the minute the weather changes when we are out they slow down and take the fun out of the ride

Hi mate. That's very interesting to hear. Thanks for letting me know. Yeah - it's your last point about the Supercorsas that make me want to swap them out. It's all well and good having a great sticky tyre when the sun shines and the road is dry, but when that changes on you and you have to massively dial it all in, then where's the fun in that. Cheers, Zappy.

With my second tyre change i also fitted a set of Bridgeport 90 degree tyre valves in black 8.3 mm so much easier to check and adjust pressures , one of my mates was having front tyre low pressure problems on his 17 and turned out to be the valve i had read about other people with this problem it looks like the core can press on the metal cap when riding a cheap fix seems to be a larger plastic cap but for me it was just getting at the bloody thing to check the pressure so the 90 degree valve was the way to go . On the supercorsa's i was pleased to get them off the bike , got the bike in June and with taking it easy with running in and getting the hang of a modern very powerful bike i would say i only got the tyres into or close to the operating temp a handful of times when i thought f--k yes these are good but in Feb 18 I changed to the road 5's and could not believe how good they felt they gave me so much confidence and was in my mind going a bit daft pushing the front end in what a bloody buzz i was getting on wet roads , that avatar pick is easter weekend 18 and came into that snow slush on the horseshoe pass in Wales , i got 200 miles in that day and further on from the pic i was doing 110 on a section and thought whats that in the centre on the white lines bloody snow slush again . I was sold on these tyres from that day on and for my type of riding a sport touring tyre in the UK is the way to go if you want to go out and ride 200 to 300 miles at a time and no worry what the weather is .

Didn't know 90 degree valves existed! Good call and thanks for the tip. I'll get those fitted too. :)

I have put a new set of Michelin Road 5 tyres on this is my 5 th set of these tyres on my Tuono and I am 470 miles in , I have not felt any of the early weave I felt on 3 of the other sets I have fitted .
What i have noticed after coming from a set of Bridgestone S22 is the bike is slower handling in that it takes more effort and is heaver to change direction what i think is strange is that when i fitted the S22's didn't feel any advantage to the handling over the 5's but going back to the 5's i can . The 22's never felt right when cold to me as if they had lost pressure and took much more effort to turn , i have 5 roundabouts in the first 3 miles from home , the 5's feel right straight out of the garage so the 22's need some warming up and i ran them in summer in the UK , with the 22's i found more white lining then i have ever felt with the 5's until they are worn out
So for me the trade of with the 5's is slower handling for the all temp and weather conditions they cope with and good lasting mileage and most of my riding is in Wales where the weather can throw it all at you in one day and not being able to ride at high speeds because of the high police presents I will stick with the 5's but if it,s new tyre time at the start of the summer i will have a set of sport tyres just reel it in a bit when it wet , only had one moment with the 22's at 90 on a sweeping right off camber and rising and the water was flowing across the road and it gave a bloody big twitch my mate in front on 5's didn't feel any thing they just cut through it .
