Hi guys, time to change tyres and looks like M5's appear to be pretty good. not sure on front tyre size though, I have 2000 mille tyres at present are michelin pilots ( been on some time) front tyre is 120/65. When looking at tyres available they are either 120/60 or 120/70, what do we think is best? On my limited knowledge of tyre sizing I think the 60 is a lower profile, but hey what do I know, I'm engines mate! Cheers.

Hi m8 ill reply to you:devious but what help i'll be is another thing ,think mines is the 7 told you i wouldn't be much help:pirateIthink it helps with turn in speed and i think you might want to ask tyregezzer it his bag ,
HELLO TYREGEEZER ARE YOU OUT THERE :biggrin:biggrin:thumbup

Hi,

Im going through the exact same thing at the mo. Im currently riding 120/70/17 front and 180/55/17 rear (pirelli's) and what Im trying to figure out is what I go for next. sorry to bore you with the spiel but before my RSV I rode a 2001 cbr 600 and it handled like a dream, now in comparison to the RSV I feel the RSV doesn't turn in as well and I am in question on whether or not reducing the Front tyre diameter from 70 down to 65 or even 60. The thing is I referred to the manual and all the tyres recommended are 70 which makes me think its just me being a gay on bike and I just need to get over it. my other thoughts are reducing the front diameter am I going to get more Head shake?

What I ideally am looking for is a set of tyres which are good for the track as this is what I would like to do this year.

Now I probably haven't helped you out one bit other than making the decision worse, however until I stumbled across this thread I was going to part with my money on a set of Maxxis supermaxx with the above sizing, maybe this question needs to go out to someone with our experiences? What are your intentions? Do you wish to do any track days yourself? Have you found any pro's or con's with your current tyre sizing?

P.S. where abouts in Lincolnshire are you from? reason I ask I've been born and breed just outside Grantham and Im always up for finding new roads in the area.

Hi J.P if you want to keep your tyre as per manfacturers recomendations but still want the bike to turn quicker read porgies post re ride height youll find lots of advice from guys who know there stuff and ask badger about turn in speed hes your man wot he doesn't know about track days n stuff well you know..........

Hi boys, my RSV is a 2000 model, the current tyres have been on the bike since 04 (changing them due to age more than worn out) and they have performed immensely and have given great confidence in their ability. Have done Cadwell on 3 occasions over last three years, first time in novice group and went on my own, found it frightening and thrilling and couldnt wait to do another one, the next time in novice group with my two brothers (Tuono and R6). On this occasion i had that much confidence in the tyres and bike that i ended up leaning over that far that the rear bobbins on the axle lifted the rear, needless to say it was sky, grass, sky, grass etc...thankfully no major damage apparent and carried on for another two sessions until we noticed oil dripping from left hand side of the bike. Dry sump tank seam had split. Last year went to Cadwell with brother in intermediate group, and at dinner time (after 2hrs riding) the great Griff was about to set up my suspension when he noticed the bottom of the rear shock, the bolt hole that attaches the shock to the swing arm, part of it had gone so when weight was off the rear wheel, then the shock was lifting off the swing arm. Bummer. must have happened at previous Cadwell offing. Bike is toy status at present and luckily hadnt been out on it much. so obviously an ohlins went on the back, slightly lower than previous shock, forks where lowered on day one of owning bike. I dont think that with my ability that i would be able to tell the difference between the profiles of the tyres in all fairness, it is just a case of thinking if i have to change them, then i want to get it bang on because they will be on the bike untill i have had every penny out of them. I think i will just take it somewhwere and ask them to surprise me!
JP, i live in Coningsby, i have noticed that nearly all roads south of here were built by the romans, but north still has some bendy bits. I am going to Cadwell on 11th April for the day so will see if i can get a full day in this time? (better had or the missus will not be very happy!)
