I need a new front tyre on my '00 RSV to replace the knackered D207 RR that's on it now. It has a new D208 RR on the rear so I suppose a D208 RR on the front is the obvious choice but have heard bad things about them - poor wet grip & wear etc.

Also it's a 120/65 and I thought 120/70 was the standard size?

Any feedback appreciated :).

As you say, you should match up the front and rear tyres properly. The choice seems to be 1) ignore what you've heard about the front D208RR 2) change both front and rear as a pair - you only have to do it once provided the new pair are to your liking. What I wouldn't do is try to save money on tyres, they're the only thing keeping you upright!

For info I've just changed to 2CT's that were highly recommended on here and I'm REALLY pleased with them. Put 130 miles on them yesterday and they feel absolutely lovely.

Yes, 120/70 is the correct size.

I would also suggest if you have any doubts about your tyres, change them both

:thumbupI think tyre choice is down to the individual, I have used 208RRs for a while now and I have had no problems whatsoever, I have an 06 Factory and that takes a 120/70 on the front.
Busters have a special offer on at the moment, doing a pair for £109.99.
Thats cheap.:doug

yep it's 120/70.. :)

I've got a set of BT014's on now, and they feel great.
I'd change the front to a D207RR as well.. have fun ! :cheers

You really need to get rid of them 208RR's as you'll see in the picture this is what happened to the tyre's Badger had on his bike and the same thing happened to the tyre's I had on mine and it also happened to several other lads on here
It's also why the likes of busters are getting rid of them cheap
You really need to go with Metzeler sportec M3's,Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's or Michelin 2CT's.

Also have a look at the Tyre Choices thread you'll find out a lot more on there

Thanks for all the feedback :bigsmile I know tyre choice is very subjective but I'd heard so many bad things about the Dunlops I don't think I'd ever trust them 100%.

So looks like a new set of tyres is the way to go.

I'll have a look through some of the tyre threads before deciding what to go for. I ride all rear round so need something that works well in the wet with decent wear rates.

Like I said, I've got those Bridgestones BT014's on, and they feel really good in the wet + dry and don't seem to wear that fast. :)
Though I think I might go for 2ct's next time round.
Oh well, subjective indeed.. But there's some nice things to choose from!

PLenty of race take offs available over here in the UK Gray, I have a racer mate who does them for £60, not sure what hoops they are on this year though.
I had a set of 208rr's on my TLS warm up really quick. I got good feedback from them too.
When I got my R1 I stuck some Diablo 111's on, and was not too impressed with them.
I don't think you can go wrong with std Diablo Corsa's.

It is all about confidence

I've always liked the look of the BT014's tread pattern but it's probably not the best way to choose tyres :dowhat.

Embarrassing confession time: When I was much younger and whizzing around on my little GSX250 I often used to go down to the local tyre shop just to look at all the big wide superbike tyres :blush In fact the first thing I look at when choosing a bike even now is how big the tyre looks from behind - the RSV's back end looks awsome. God I'm wierd :devious

I agree with PJ it's all down to confidence. I used to ride around on Michelin Macadams thinking they were wonderful then joined a bike club and everyone slagged them off - they never felt quite as good after that :confused

:lol your not alone there tantrum. Must admit theres nothing sexier than a big fat tyre on a bike...makes it look like it means business and the RSV has that in abundance :pirate
