Hi Guys, just registered on the site and finding it to be a wealth of knowledge. Im hoping somebody could give me an answer to a quick question I have?

Im in the process of putting my 02 Mille back on the road after a low side just over two years ago now (a long insurance story...) Its due an MOT and I need to fit a new front tyre. At present I have a Dunlop 207rr on the rear which has plenty of life left in it. I've found a cheap Dunlop 207 on Ebay but is isn't the rr version, its a Dunlop D207f (same size as the rr already on the front). Would there be any 'issues' mixing the two?

Mine either mate, had too many issues with Dunflops to ever trust them again :jack

Depends on your finances obviously, but if you can afford it replace them with something else, theres plenty of threads on here about tyre choices you can do a search on :thumbup

Ebay is your friend if you want to try out different tyres, i just got a pair of Pirelli supercorsa's with 5mm tread on for £68 :doug
 
Thanks for the replies guys - I was looking at the Dunlop tyre as the cheapest option to get the bike finally back on the road. Replacing parts + service + MOT (not to mention tax and insurance) mean the pennies are starting to stretch. Wasn't planning on any fast road riding (just yet) until I've greased myself back in (haven't ridden a bike in over a year).

Really just wanted to check I could mix a rear Dunlop 207rr with a standard 207 front.

Once my finances have caught up I intend to make a few upgrades....
 
funny how we all hate dunlops,ive never liked them on any bike ive had,and yet every bike ive bought came with them fitted ffs.
probably wont matter mate if its just to get through the m.o.t,but swap as soon as you can,front and back imo.

I'd NOT mate, the other way round then maybe ie an RR on the front and a std on the rear but I found the std 207 to be crap....
the RR was OK
GP* was an excellent tyre...but then I used to get those for £20 a pair...:devious
 
ive just had an email from M&P advertising a pair of michelin pilot sports for £135,seems a decent price for you mate for front and back matching new tyres?!
 
After having a low side i would invest in decent rubber for peace of mind. Pirelli or michelin seem the favs. Get some cracking deals on ebay.
 
As a general rule - if you must mix tyres the stickier compound must be on the front.

So if you are keeping the rr on the back you need an rr for the front.
 
you cant cut corners on rubber, its all we got to keep it shiny side up:exclamation, the front may look ok but if its been stode for a period thers a good chance its got a bad/ weak patch on it. i know how much it hurts to pay for new but shop around theres some good deals out there........be lucky, oh and pirellis work well on the rsv for everyday roads.:thumbup

I think the reason for them being so cheap is that they will be old stock cos when i tried to order some from my local dealer i was told that they are now out of date and the next generation is the pilot sport HPX, so i got them instead so far they are brilliant, 1200 mile trip still look as good as new...
