Tyre choice for Gen 1 53 plate

:banghead Hi guys,

At the risk of p*****g everyone off, I want some help in making up my mind what to do when I replace my tyre(s) over the winter.

She's a Gen 1 on a 53 plate with 11k miles on the clock :thumbup:thumbup not a lot of miles I know, but the rear is due for changing.

My dilema is this - according to the manufacturing date on the tyres [rear 2006 & front 2005] and after looking at the mileage on the MOT's the front tyre has only done about 3,500 miles (aprox). I know that this mileage is still very low for a front tyre, however the age of tyre is a concern.

So should I,

1) Just change the rear tyre
2) Change both tyres at the same time and bugger the cost

The bike is fitted with Pirelli's - which I like and will probably stick with - but bearing in mind the age of the front tyre (if I keep it) what do I buy that will match.
If I change both then I was looking at Angel ST or Angel GT (the rear is a 190/50) at the moment.

All probably mundane stuff, but I thought I would ask the question, as most of you have owned Tuoldo's for longer than me, and any guidance is greatly appreciated.

PS I'm not a track day monster - hence the preferred choice of Angel's

Cheers

Gray :cheers

Personally I would change both, but being someone not bothered with 'the latest lovie brand' go with a deal pair.

I went with Pirella Diablo Corsas @ £140 for the pair recently.

Pirelli 120/70ZR17 180/55ZR17 Diablo Strada Pair Tyres

So much ***** about tyres makes me cringe. How often do we reach the limits of them on our ****** roads?

Hold oot yer hand, palm doon tae a slap the top of it ya Fud.

How the fook are we meant to know how, where, and whit conditions yer ride yer machine in,,,,,,,,,,,,,yer really are a FUD.

That said the tyre that's fitted is the best until it lets go.

So yer need confidence wae yer rubber hoop never mind the road conditions.

I swore buy the Angel STs until the front shifted on me on a shell griped left hander.

I'm on ma third set of STs and I still can't fathom oot why it slid on that occasion.

Horses fir Courses mucker. :thumbup

Thanks for giving me a right old ear bashing Aldo, :cheers but I thought you would get it from my comment "I'm not a track day monster" :megaphone. I use the bike for enjoyment and not as a commuter vehicle and I don't do track days - just a boring old bloke on normal everyday roads....I'm too old to try to ride like a GP god. I just wanted to gauge everyone elses ideas and see if there appeared to be a theme on what the forum thought as the "best" selection. So sorry for being a fud.....ya fud :lol

Are you still happy with the ST's.....in your opinion :hail

Cheers

gray IMO there are 2 brands with 2 tyres that offer what you want:
Pirelli Angel ST or GT
Dunlop Sportsmart or Roadsmart

at present i am on the Sportsmart but going for the Roadsmart next as i intend to up my mileage next year with a bit of touring

Aye Gray I do like the STs but like most sport/touring tyres they do have their limits.

I do recommend them and if yer fit them yer wont be disappointed, I suppose the Roadsmarts will be as good anall.

How you gonna up ya mileage mr B..... You starting a courier service now ?:lol
Gray, Metzeler Z8 for me this summer, best tyre I've ever ridden on in the wet, plenty of grip in all conditions and looks like I will get decent mileage too.

hang on mr b......

Wot about bridgestones.... Bt 23 ( and now 30's) are fab on a T...

:)

For me, the worst feeling is to NOT feel confident when riding. And as you already have some concerns about the age of your tyres, and if you are like me, then I would have them changed! You will never be able to enjoy cornering or wet road driving if you don't have faith in your stuff.

I shall try the bridgestones when my rear needs renewing, got BT023's on the wifes' bike and they seem good.

I wiz only jokin mucker, yer plenty fast enough. :yes :thumbup

Thanks lads, :thumbup got an idea what I will probably be doing, I will wait to see if I can get a deal over the winter.
Still got enough tread on the rear to comfortably get through the MOT later this month. I was just concerned with the actual age of the tyres.
The bike has always been garaged; at least the condition of the bike for her age, certainly indicates that she has been well loved, before I got her. But with both hoops being over 7 years old, then I will definately replace both with fresh rubber. :yes

Cheers :cheers
