Bike magazine's September issue pits the Yamaha FZ1, Honda's CB1000R, Triumph Speed Triple and the Tuono R against one another.

Verdict.

Tuono - 3rd year in a row.

That is'nt a real comp,the Tuono is a true naked Superbike,not a detuned,chopped up wanna' be!!!
Of course it took it,not even the Monster or triple comp. That's my take...............but I'm a little bias!!

i've gotta disagree with you BT. As much as I like it, the Tuono is just as much of a chopped up wanna be as the FZ1 and speed triple. The FZ is really an R1 without the boywork, and the same goes for the Triple. What's the Tuono? RSV motor....RSV frame....no RSV fairings...hmm...:O

its hard to find a naked bike that doesn't have a fully clothed brother. The Monster is one of those few bikes. Maybe the Honda 919.

It makes sense from a manufacturing point of view. Costs them very little extra to develop and build, helps them build more scale, and more revenue to boot.

just got the mag today and u get the impression that they wanted to find one of the others the winner but the tuono just ticks all the boxes better,as we know already, and as they say this is a bike that hasn't changed in 3 years.Of course i think that the orginal is still the best

I think the Tuono is the only naked to have its engine's state of tune remain unchanged (not detuned, retuned or neutered)from that of its donor sportsbike.

Also, the tuono is one of the only nakeds to leave all its bits dangling - still mounted where they were originally with only some bits of plastic or c/f to act as covers (oil and coolant tanks etc).

OK, i'll give you that. Now the question is....is that good or bad?

Dunno about good or bad. I prefer "authentic":yes

Not quite true, sadly. RSV has slightly different intake stacks and makes 4 more HP, (143 vs 139) might have a slightly different map. It's common sense it helps the RSV produce more ponies at the top of the rev range, where your head would probably have come off on a T.

The big bonus about the T is the fact it has a pukka RSV chassis & suspension. The Fz1 corners like a tank, I doubt the Honda is as good as a Blade?

Wholeheartedly agreed mate.:thumbup

My point was that the RSV and Tuono share the same engine etc: same cams, same valve timing. Injection mapping is a moot point when most owners alter theirs to suit their aftermarket exhausts anyway.

To my mind, the T is truly a stripped down RSV with handlebars. Can anyone come up with another example with as close a relationship as the RSV/Tuono have?:dunno

No, but I am wating for KTM to make their RC8 KTuoMo :yes

Tuono's are very much a pukka sportsbike, the Tuoldo like mine is exactly as you describe, in fact many Mille owners are converting their bikes over to Milluonos as their backs and wrists get too old for the riding position.

The Tunuo is a bit more developed, hence the subtle changes, but it's still the full fat version, none of this semi skimmed *****. :cheers
