Tuono stops

Hello, since last year I have a problem with my 2002/2003 Tuono. It started with a "hickup" during riding, but now the engine stops sometimes after 100m, 800m or I can ride without problems. As I stop, most of the time I can start and ride again. Sometimes it starts but doesn't run and as far I can tell the fuelpomp works. The fueltank and filter are clean and I cleaned the fuelpomp connectors. The only thing I found was the enginestopswitch, that is really sensitive. But then the bike does not start at all.
Who can help me?

Cheers Jos Bakker

Hi Jos & welcome.

When you get a mo feel free to post an introductory message on the 'Lobby', 'New Member' page, as a courtesy to the forum! :)

First check out your kill switches as it sounds like one may be playing up. Put bike on paddock stand, start bike and wiggle the stand to see if the sensor is playing up. Engine should cut if this is the cause. If you have an Ohm-meter you can connect meter across the stand sensor switch connector and open/close stand to see where switch opens/closed, and check if operation is consistent.

You can do the same with the handled bar kill switch. As noted on this forum, the handlebar kill switch can corrode if not regularly used... as its self cleaning.

Let is know how you get on.

Hi Paul, sorry to answer so late but if your not working anymore you have less time.
After what I saw on the forum I decided first to change the fuelpumprelay. That did not help. Then I made a bypass to the fuelpump, same problem, so I thought the pump was broken. A new Aprilia pump 330,00 euro, but it is a common, universal pump. Here in Spain 115,00 euro. Replaced the pump, but still had the problem. Stupid off course I should first had measered the electricity. If the connector was off the pump, there was current. With the connector on , no current. I than cleaned all the ground wires and so far so good. Such a little thing and so hard to find. I hope someone else can use this in the future. Thanks for your reply and come ride here, all summer great weather!

Thanks for the update. Yes, ground/earth connections are a known problem reported on this forum. Glad you got it fixed. Definitely worth going for the cheapest and common problems first.

At least you've got the best weather to enjoy and make up for the downtime. :)
