Dont get me wrong, im no expert, but if it is a Tuono Factory it should be an Ohlins damper, not sachs, and it is located underneath the front nose cone, on the forks, hope this helps, sorry no pics. :thumbup

Yep, your right, it is pretty grime :crazy, I have an 08 Tuono R and took the sachs damper off as it was shi rubbish, and replaced it with an Ohlins, which isnt much better to be honest with you, front end still waggles all over at speeds when wheel comes off the ground, yet the Ohlins I had on an R1 was spot on, you couldnt even turn the bars if the damper was wound right on. :dunno

Hi Richmond, I've just changed the Sachs to an Ohlins on my Factory. When I quizzed the Aprilia rep who was in my dealer on Thursday last he didn't have a clue, thought it should have been an Ohlins - sadly I know he's wrong but would love to be disproved. Sachs is non adjustable and Ohlins has 18 clicks.:banghead

Hi Johny.
Just had another look at my Sachs damper and it looks kleen enough to me, maybe you should give it a wash, it might work better. Seriously though the first time I was out on my T I was very aware of how flighty the front was with my normal riding. However when you goto the brakes, what the f**k have you to moan about It's planted.
Once you'ved run it in and are more used to the bike you can start to adjust the suspension to suit you and have even bigger grins. "Get rid of grime use spalt buster and go for useless"

sorry,i grime meens sh*t where i come from,i should have been a bit clearer in my description :) johny

Hi guys,
I've sent e-mails to Aprilia Headquarters and to the Australian importor, about this abnormallity.:banghead Both have FAILED to get back to me, I will try again.

that would be spot on if you get answer :thumbup shame to spoil such a great bike with a tacky part such as the cheapo damper:banghead :thumbdown

cheers johny

Keep up the good work, Perry. If no joy perhaps we should send a collective email from the Tuonozone membership?:megaphone

European '08 T Factory also has Sachs damper ... I don't know about English version cause they have had Akrapovic's on their Factory's and rest of Europe haven't
hmmm maybe England is no Europe anymore ?
well, at least there Down Under you are Europeans (by Aprilia meaning) :cheers

The UK versions don't have Akra's on, though most owners do fit them. As for the damper, I think that all Factories from 06 have the Sachs, though I don't know for sure. Mine is 08 and has a Sachs.

I am not personally worried about it though as I am not a fan of dampers, and believe that if one is required, the bike has an inherent design flaw (ala Suzuki TL 1000 S).
You can tune any waggling or weave out using the suspension, and if you get the rear right, the bike should drive super hard in 2nd and 3rd without the front wheel lifting off the ground entirely. After running in, mine was a handful in low gears, with bars flapping all over.
I set the front forks up to the race setting in the manual, and added 5 clicks of rebound on the rear and it works well now (please note that the fine tuning will be dependant on your weight, riding style and roads that you use.)

UK '08 Factories came with Akras and the unused originals as a promotion. By the way richmond, wind your Ohlins up to full on 18 clicks then back 5 and try, if too tight try 10, mine is set to 8 and the suspension is set for my weight in leathers etc. Solid as a rock. :thumbup

Hi Johnny, like you I am also querying my dealer about my non adjustable steering damper (sachs) instead of ohlins. Iam waiting on an answer from aprilia uk headquarters. Just for the record were did you buy your bike from?
