I have had all the usual issues, starter solenoid, battery, fuelling, lumpy running, cloncky drivetrain but I now have a beauty of a bike that wipes the floor with anything else I have test ridden.
Its roomy, comfortable and will roll all day without any issues.
So heres my feelings on the "reliability" problems that so many have.
Laziness & abuse, yep thats what I said. :megaphone
I have had to pull my finger out after years of having all my servicing done for me and open the tool box .
I think it just comes down to doing the basics right on these bikes, proper servicing, taking the time to clean and gap plugs (cured my fuelling issues), new chain and sprockets (sorted my drivetrain issues), setting the chain tension, setting the throttle cable right, greasing all the bolts you take out when they go back in, using contact cleaner on all the electrical connectors (when you check them), hooking up an optimate (or similar) once a week.
Oh and move the bloody tax disc holder off the fork leg....so it doesn't wear through the main stanchion.
Maybe the jap bikes just take abuse better, they keep running where the ape just says (b*****ks) and stops.
Most older jap bikes I have tried run like sh*t until the basics get sorted.
There off my chest and I feel much better now, nurse where are my pills........:crazy
