Really a question for Badger and the likes. What should I be looking out for when buying track day scrubs off of ebay? Any tips? What sort of price do you think is fair?

I'm assuming Supercorsa Pro's or Racetecs are the way to go, soft front medium rear :dunno

I see a certain marktalbot has a set for sale on ebay at the moment :devious are you about Mark, one and the same person?

Buying track day scrubs off ebay is pig and a poke time imho. There is little way of knowing the condition from a picture as to my way of thinking; one off the most important elements is the profile (even ware) of the tyre which cannot be seen from a pic. Once mine start to flat spot they’re history as the handling starts to heads south.
The manufacture date of the tyre is stamped on the sidewall. E.g. 33 04 being week 33 of 2004. Best to get them directly from someone who races themselves after a meeting as you’ll know the history and they won’t be too old. Trouble is a lot of guys are going over to 16.5 inch rims for increased grip at high lean angles, which are no use to us. If you’re paying over forty quid or so for a rear that’s only going to last one track day might as well think about getting a new one. The reason I run slicks is mainly for economy and of coarse to wind up all the punters who turn up on those dodgy, slippery old road tyres.:devious Enjoy.

Cheers.:cheers

As H said Cat it is a bit of a lottery on fleabay, the tread depth is not the first thing to go on the centre, it is the wear on the sides that are the problem, i used to buy scrubs and stopped, the saving is not that massive plus you have piece of mind and confidence when you buy new tyres, and as we all know confidence is what you need, if you have niggles in your mind about tyres it WILL affect your riding believe me.

I run slicks as well as you get more days out of them, i have not found a big difference in grip levels if any at all compared to the likes of racetecs or S/C pro's.

I would spend some extra and buy new and keep them for your track days, you want an S/C1 front and an S/C2 rear run at 30.5psi front and 27.5 rear set stone cold.

james i have a set in the garage bridgestone (i think) already scrubbed in, plenty of tread left on both and in good nic, if you want them mate give me a pm

I've just started using super corsa pro's from a lad who races in the thundersport series and i am more than happy i pay £110 for a front and 2 rears

rsvr47 i might be interested in those bridgestones - how much and which ones are they

I buy new treaded track tyres and run em for a few days on the track before putting them on my road bike and wearing the middles out on the motorway.

Im thinking of trying more road biased tyres such as 2ct's for trackdays as I used them last winter in the fast group and had no problems. The last few tenths of a second here and there don't really matter as im not racing.
