The Frozen ******* Wasteland!
Sooo, yeah, I was rockin' the Yaller and white n black Power Ranger suit again at our local track last Saturday. I borrowed a shift lever from a friend that has an RSV-R that sports some Gilles rear sets. Thanks Nick! Tidied some other bits up a bit and found that I had also cracked the L side of the front fender. ****. Lowered the pressure on the tires to 29 front and 28 (if I recall correctly) rear when hot. Came back from the first round pretty stoked that I managed to navigate without going for any offtrack excursions. As I was busy being chuffed, one of my mates said, "Dude... wheres the cap from the reservoir for your clutch?".
****.
Sooo, I taped the **** out of the reservoir with black tape (the diaphragm was still there) and managed to finish the day without issue. I took a track walk after the day was done over to where I had binned it and managed to find the plastic bits that I broke off the left little wing on the rad. Encouraged I decided to walk a little more and ****** if I didn't find my reservoir cap about 60m down the track on the clutch side. Lemme tell ya, I did the freakin' happy dance!!
I was pretty tentative the first couple of rounds, but by the end of the second round, I was dabbing my knee here and there again. Really trying to work on the kiss the mirror thing, practicing moving around on the bike, and watching my lines. Enter the track at the end of the line and I really didn't have to fight with anyone or impede them in the corners. Thanks to those that had tips for set up and body positioning. It does make a difference doesn't it?
The weather got really sucky about 1600 hrs with 50 kph winds and some driving rain, so I packed up a little early. The little front blew through and the sun actually came out for a moment after and I was tempted to unload the bike and take the last round... Tired, cold tires, and still gusty winds made me leave the bike on the trailer. Glad I did. Wouldn't want to bin it at the end of the day like the previous week. A good friend of mine was out on her 954, having ridden out with her b/f (him on his 1098) and having a great time until about 1430 when she ended up in the kitty litter just at the exit of turn two. She was up and walking immediately, Bob (Her bike), had a lot of cracked plastic, and the windshield was toast, but she was able to ride home after. One slight scuff on the RS Taichi leathers. Talked to her today and she doesn't even have the grace to have a sore bum...
I really have to say that a track day is the most fun you can have with your leathers on (not counting the time the missus and I dressed up in the race gear and ummm... well, maybe I better leave that one along). I heartily recommend it to all you neophytes and dilettantes so that you can get to know another part of your 'Priller. When they say race ready, they ain't shittin'. Pulling the license plate, signals, and mirrors is about a ten minute job. She looks soooo freakin' tuff when she gets all race ready and nekkid like that.
I'll see if I can buy some pics to post later. Funds preclude at this time.
