I have a 2007 Tuono 1000R that loves the racetrack. I think I'm going to convert it to a dedicated track bike. Anyone have any experience with this? Am I an idiot and should sell it and buy a proper track bike?

Depends by what you call a proper track bike, I've seen BMW gs's and triumph Tigers on track days, and been slaughtered by cb500's and sv650's at places like Mallory.
To my mind trackdays should be about fun, if you're chasing laptimes maybe you start to take it too seriously.

not looking to track lap times. I just thought it was bizarre that people at the track thought it strange that I wanted to make it a dedicated track bike. Providing they sell the appropriate frame sliders, handlebar protectors, etc. for the bike, seems just right for me. The bike is only probably worth $5k, I love it, and it is in like new condition. What kind of track bike can you buy for $5k?
