TomTom Routes on Google Maps

I found a snazzy way of pre planning your routes and then converting them to Itinerary files in a format that TomTom understands.

Download this programme - Click Me - It's pretty small and is virus free.

Once downloaded then I suggest you either do what I do and play around with it to understand how it works or read this - Click Me.

It's a piece of cake to use, however I have found out that Google maps is not that accurate on 7 digit post codes, so be careful.

I've also managed to get together a load of voices for speed camera alerts and add them to the latest speed camera Dbases. Just unzip the file and add them in to the same folder on your TomTom that holds the maps.

Once added to your TomTom you have to go to manage POI's on your TomTom and activate the camera to warn you.

Have fun and avoid those points on your licence. :thumbup

the thing is with TYRE that the route that you create using google maps and only a few waypoints will not necessarily be the same route as chosen by tomtom (depending on fastest/shortest etc). to overcome it, you have to put in lots of waypoints.

The way I've done mine it does, I basically create the route in googlemaps then use TYNE to convert it to a TomTom Itinerary file, I added this to the ITN folder on my SD card and then booted up TomTom.

Go to Itinerary planning then select option down the bottom, select load itinerary and away you.

i know that's how to do it, as it's the whole point of the software. but it doesn't always work like that. tomtom could choose different routes between 2 points (whether they be waypoints or start and finish) depending on if you choose fastest route, shortest route, avoid motorway or whatever.

for example, if you were to plan a route from bracknell to crawley like i did the other day, there are many options that it could take. you have the option in google maps to select 'avoid highways' and select from a couple of different routes. the only way to make the tomtom follow the exact route chosen in google maps that i wanted that i achieved by moving the route several times was to save lots and lots of waypoints
