Hi,
I bought a second hand caponord 1200 2 months ago. I am very happy with it.
The bike had 7000 km.
Can anyone tell me how many km's (or miles) the OEM tires last?
 
Can't say yet but I don't think they will last that long as the Dunlop Q2 is a sports tyre and very soft. I like them so far.
Having said that I love the Conti Road Attack 2 and have had them on a ZZR 1400,and KTM 950 SM. they have a dull skin and feel run in straight from the start.

in the meantime i drove 8300 km with the OEM tires.
But i must say that the little blocks (i don't know how you call them) are almost equel with the rest of the tire. Maybe it rests 0.5 mm.
I hope I can drive another 1500 km before they are completely worn.
So 9800 km with these sports-tires is not bad at all I think.

Excatly the conti road attack 2 are very good tires. I had them on my previous motorcycle a triumph tiger 800. I think when the dunlops are finished i will put conti's on my caponord.
 
so i'm back from my trip to France, Alsace, Voges,
the tires lasted 10.000 KM
the fronttire can handle maybe 2 or 3000 km more
the rear-tire is completly worn.
I would say, not bad for sport-tires :)
 
I've got 5000km on the OEM Qualifiers and reckon the rear has maybe 2000km left in it(plenty left in the front). Too many straight sections in between the twisties in Oz means that there is already a noticeable flat spot in the centre of the rear.
Does anyone have a strong opinion on the best replacement? I've had good reports about Michelin Pilots and Pirelli Angel GTs, and was more than happy with Metzeler Z8s on my old BMW K1200. 95% of my riding is on tarred roads of varying surface quality (other 5% on good gravel)

I have had excellent results with PR3 (now PR4) Michelin's on my 120,000km old Blackbird.

Can you trust a newbie, when he says he gets 20,000km out of a set before he then replaces them along with fork oil - and there's more tread left - but who cares at that mileage? They wear evenly, have great grip until 15,000km then drop to only good grip as they grind on to 20k. Seee, told you you won't believe a newbie....but that's what I've been doing on my Blackbird for many years, and I hope the Caponord will be similar!

I run them at 35psi Front and 37psi Rear and as they get great life there is no need to put higher pressures in to keep them cool in our climate. They are not like Metzler Marathon's of yesteryear where they lasted 50 million km's but caused crashes at roundabout's! Cheers.

Recently purchased a Capo 1200 Y2013, bike fitted with a 180/55 rear, wish to increase to a 190/55, does anybody know whether there are any issues with this.?

Checking the new bike apes indicate this size tyre, not sure why size reduced to 180?

Hi Matto. Go forth and fit 190/55....you will be pleased! I put a 190/55 PR4 on at 8100kms and have 9600k on the clock now. It is the right tyre! The OEM Dunlop was to the centre indicators but I could have ridden with it for another 2000k (maybe) but we seem to have a safety drive on and could get fined for tread depth, so I bailed early and fitted the big tyre......totally pleased....it flogs round corners and doesn't scrape!

Ps 32psi front Dunlop and 36psi rear 190/55 (if you fit PR4 you can expect 20,000kms unless you do burnouts or track days).
Pps Speedo error now 5-6% (ie 105 Capo=99kph Garmin)

Hi guys possibly older post thread here but just bought a 195 tyre and the garage have said they dont think it will fit on my 2016 Rally with spoke wheels - anyone else done this?

Or had any issues?
 
Your garage is correct.

All the talk about the 190/55 profile is related to Travel Pack and Strada bitumen road tourers with 6" rear rims.

Yur Rally has a narrower rim and should run 170/60 (from memory) - your owners manual will specify the correct size. You might get away with a 180/55 on that rim if you want to access tar road tyres for more sports handling instead of the dirt/tar composite oem tyres.

The shop won't fit the tyre because the beads will not seal properly = dangeroous:eek:

PS just had a look on Google and rear is 4.5" rim with 170/60x17" tyre....... the narrow rim might not safely hold a 180/55 either - if the shop will fit it then it wil be safe but they won't fit it if they know the bead won't seat properly (otherwise there is plenty of room inside the swingarm/chain/etc - try asking on the AF1 forum as all the Rally owners are posting on that site)....... you might be stuck with the semi trail spec tyres for tar road use. The front is a 120/70x19" on a 3" rim (TP & Strada versions had 3.5" x17"front wheels and 6" x 17" rears for tar road spec tyres).

Any word on how big a tyre will fit on Johonno's Rally rim? Just curious to know if a bigger tyre would safely/correctly fit on the 4.5" rim....... ;)

Ultimately my garage said that a 190 will definitely not fit on the Rally - they think possibly a 180 is maximum but in the end I went for 170 Pirelli Scorpion Trial as fitted to Multistrada

So far 250 miles (mostly wet) its performing very well

Next new one could be same tyre but 180
