Not far from you!
Im assuming there is nothing that can be done with tight spots in a chain but thought i would ask if there are any cures?

I have a bad tight spot in my chain perhaps its time for a new one :roll

I think that could be a sign m8! :dowhat

How many miles has it done?

I don't know if I'm just terrible at noticing them but I don't seem to get tight spots? :dunno

Soak it in clean engine oil for a day or two, works a treat.

That is assuming it's due to grime or corrosion, if it's been damaged by external forces then it's time to bin it.

thanks for the quick responce chaps!

Its done just over approx 11K and been on the bike from new as far as i know.

I clean/lube it regular but there is a good chance its been abused prior to me owning the bike. (did look a bit dirty)

What chain would you recommend i get if i need to change it? The sprockets were put on when it was serviced back in april and have only seen just over 1000 miles.

:thumbup

I'd go for a D.I.D, at least the heavy duty one.

What brand sprockets do you have on? I would have replaced the chain when you got the sprockets done :dunno

ive used izumi gold chains for years on new litre bikes - excellent chains - light coating of heavy duty 90's gear oil once a week and spot on for years -

Yes i wish i had of done now, id planned to run it like it is this year and then change the lot next year.

I put on a part worn 42t rental rear and a new Aprilia 15t front.

FFS, im gonna have to get a chain breaker aswell now :rant

oooh i'd love a tight spot, i've been married far too long :biggrin

I got DID heavy duty gold chain and renthal rear sprocket for about £130 i think :dunno ( had it fitted same time as major service)

chains do have some tight spots anyway so you may be getting rid of it for no reason. But anyway i got the DID X ring with the super sproxx of rsvr. They are really good and look the dogs!!

Tight spots only tend to appear in cheap chains or really badly maintained ones, otherwise you can get in a tight spot down Southend Seafront most Saturday nights !!

Cheers for your imput chaps :thumbup

When i say it has a tight spot i mean its normal movement in places is 25mm-28mm but on the tight spot its about 5mm ffs, thats what i call a tight spot.

Yes i recon its time for a new one, like i said in one of my other posts i have no idea how it was maintained before i brought the bike. Bearing in mind its the original chain its prob a crap one any how.

Anyone got some links to the chains suggested, good prices?

thanks :thumbup

B&C Express is the only place for chains and sprockets.:doug

I have Renthal sprockets/chain and they have done 5k miles and the chain tension is still at 22mm the same as the date it was installed :thumbup
