wondered if anyone got any ideas on following problem .. started bike sat morning and was idling at 3000rpm thought this was high but only had bike two days so thought it could be cold tickover speed went out after about 2 mls tickover went up to nearly 5000rpm then red warning triangle came on so pulled over turned off bike .tried to ring a mate to come and pick me up after about 10 mins turned bike on started ok tick over now 1200 rpm, had a 30mile ride everything ok and fired it up today aswell seemed fine ..any ideas thanks

I'm guessing it's apost 04 bike with auto idle ?

2 possibilities.

Alarm (if fitted) messing with the electronics. Some manufacturers of alarms had to revise their fitting instructions for this reason.

Second and more likely is your immobiliser ecu is acting up and it plays havoc with the stepper motor signal to the ecu so the idle speed gets messed up.

You can check for corroded connections around the ecu on the left inner fairing panel but it's usually that it has had water ingress and is corroding internally.
Especially if your bike is 04/05 as a few seem to be failing from that age.
 
thanks yes it is an 05 model fitted with a datatool system 3 .
 
thanks for advice bike went back to dealers today as still under warranty turned out it was a stuck flapper valve in airbox but thinking about taking alarm off anyway its a pain and nobody takes any notice of alarms do they ill stick to a baseball bat so if anyone wants a datatool system 3 alarm i will have it on ebay when removed...........
