Throttle Cable advice

Ok fellas
I maybe going to have a look at an early 2000 W reg RSVR soon. She's a bit tatty but mechanically sound save for needing new throttle cables.

The guy selling it says the metal part on the end of the cable that goes into the handlebar/throttle has cracked? and the throttle sticks open.

Not being too clued up on RSVs at the moment, was just wondering if it's an easy job or not to change them and get them adjusted up - whether it could be done in situ with some basic tools or is it a bit of a **** job to do.

Any advice appreciated

Hi there Looney Tunes. The throttle cables are a simple do. A pretty basic tool kit will suffice. You'll need to pop the tank and remove the airbox to swop the cables, and setting them up isn't tricky. Depending on how you go, a half hour job. You'd be wise though to open up the throttle housing and inspect the cable for yourself first to make sure it is that that is making the throttle stick :thumbup

If you need any more info, give me a shout.

Ah sweet , thanks mate.

I'm just thinking that if it's an easy job which it now sounds like it then it would save having to organise a bike trailer and all that malarky if it needed replacing.

I phoned the local Aprilia dealers and they can order some if needed but reckon it will be a week to get them in. It was registered in April 2000 so the service/parts bloke was asking me whether it was a 2000 model or not. Without the chassis number I'm none the wiser - it's this paint job anyway:

I might be going down tomorrow to take a look at it so we'll see what gives.

Tis indeed a 2000 model. Give Motosport Aprilia in Wareham a ring on 01929 555003. I picked up a set from them around a month ago straight off the shelf and they were ordering more in as the cables are shared with a couple of other models so they tend to keep them ready in stock :thumbup

Could well of been squire, but it could of been made anywhere upto 2000.5 which was the changeover to the updated model. Simplest way visually to tell are the sidepanels, tank and fairing ears normally sir :thumbup
