Throttle and petrol !

Well folks it was a nice day so i took the bike out for its second time and bam :mad1, when i started her up the proper way she screemed her guts off and thought just the throttle had stuck open but on further investigation it looks like either a cable has been routed incorrectly or its catching on something :confused. The bike revs itself when the bars are turned to the left which seems to me like it could be routed wrong although i popped down to the local bike shop to see another mille and the cables were routed the same way so now im confused :confused.. any thoughts people :dunno.

Oh and there is a strong petrol smell when stationary but i cant see any leaks at all. Help me please :hail:hail:bawling
 
I haven't looked at Itallian throttle cables, but, if they're routed correctly, it could be that the cable has "pulled" out of the "keeper" next to the throttle bodies. This will make the cable "open" the throttles and cause the over-rev situation. When the ignition is turned off, the "stuck open" throttle will continue to pour raw gas into the cylinders and that will obviously cause the gas smell. This is a pretty extreme posibility but the cables are "buried", under bodywork,and you need to get it back to the shop, asap. Under the right conditions, a "stuck" throttle can cause very expensive damage.:scared:scared
Here's hoping that I'm way off on my guess and it turne out to be something simple.:biggrin
 
Ive rang the bike shop again :mad1, and its going back in on saturday where they will fix it while i wait :thumbup. It sure makes interesting riding when you turn left having to hold the throttle grip back so it dont rev its nuts off and power slide through the corners :scared and the petrol smell is a bit worrying .

I could take the bike to bits myself to see what the trouble is but then again if i find something that's needing more to fix then it would be best to let them do it . Its probably something simple but as its under the new 3 month warranty they can sort it out :yes,i should have it sorted saturday then ill be able to ride it without the thought of it going up in flames :mad1:mad1:mad1:scared:thumbup
 
Yeah i know what your saying but the worst has been sorted m8 , its just that they must have thrown it together in the workshop and never really took it for a proper test :dunno. When i took the bike back down the road i thought i smelt petrol but just thought it would be excess stuff burning off from the rebuild and never thought nothing of it , couple of days passed and never took it out again till the weekend and its still leaking :mad1 somwhere so back to the garage where hopefully they will fix it properly :confused.

It dont help when the mechanic said he dont like aprilias :eek::mad1, maybe thats because he's a HONDA :puke GREASE MONKEY :mad1

Feel for you mate, you must be so pi55ed off by now. If I remember correctly you said the bike was at a dealers in Coventry? Taz, over at Peterborough are Aprilia dealers and looking at their showroom and workshop, which is open so that you can watch the mechanics work, it's a very tidy setup. May be worth considering after this Honda dip sh!t has sorted the current problems.

Only from personal experience can I say that I think the best place to take an Aprilia in and around the northants area is Forza Italia at Silverstone they specialise in Italian bikes and have looked after mine with out any problems.
 
that's a bit of a haul though. if steve is midlands based there's speedaway in blackheath which is a bit closer than peterborough. i had my yam serviced there and they are excellent even though they lost their yamaha franchise. they are still aprilia (plus ktm, guzzi and mv) though and my bike will be going there. mind you i'm spoiled as streetbike and speedaway are both within 10 minutes of my house :)

I suggest you find yourself a decent Aprilia dealer, because that just isn't right :coocoo
 
Im a bit stuck at the minute as to who can fix the bike as its still under warranty so ill have to leave it the hands of the honda people :mad1, im just hoping all can be fixed once and for all :thumbup
 
Forza italia look like a good place and not that far away, at least they know what they are talking about and have the knowledge and experience so after the warranty is up i'll be having a ride over to see the set up at silverstone :thumbup. It was -5 this morning so im looking forward to the ride up to coventry at 7am saturday :scared, i think 2 pairs of gloves and 2 jackets will be in order :thumbup. The things i do for my rsv but i know she's worth it :love2:thumbup
 
Both Martin and Iain at Forza are cracking blokes. Iain is a very knowledgeable, down to earth guy. Sure they'll look after you.

When my last bike, Ducati, needed 8 rockers, they sourced some recon parts and did the service/repair for £1070.00. Another user on here needed 4 rockers at a Ducati dealer and ended up with a £1400.00 bill! Glad my bike wasn't repaired there.
 
hi mate i maneged to split the fuel pipe from the tank by not moving the pipe properly when lowering and bolting the tank back down it gets trapped underneath and its quite a common problem apparently on early shape mille's not sure what yeah yours is but worth checking out
 
Wow I was surprised to read this bad news. Let's hope they take care of those little problems. You should ask Santa for a new set of tools (and special APrilia tools) so you can do all your own work... the right way. =o
 
Fuel pipe split :mad1, ooh arrgh :eek:.. hope its not that cos ive got a 40 mile trip to the dealers and dont want my ride up in flames :mad1. Still they told me to ride it up after what i told them :confused, so be it and maybe it wont be so cold after all when im warming my *** on flames coming out from under the tank :scared.
I am qutie able to look at what the problem is myself but feel i shouldn't have to be doing this as it should have been checked and double checked ,the fuel pipe being split by locating the tank does sound the most probable cause and the throttle cable also being trapped in the process :exclamation.

Hope they fix it :bawling???:down or i'll be :whipping whipping HONDA *** :mad1

Cheers dave :thumbup, all i need is someone to take a bit of care when re-building it :mad1. I cant believe im taking it back once more but it should be a quick fix this time as the pipe and cables must be trapped some where :confused. At least its slightly milder weather so it wont be so cold on the fingers at 7.30 am :scared
