This the right diode for the headlight full beam mod?

Read some of the threads detailing how to wire up the headlight relays using a diode in order to have the dipped beam stay on when the high beam is switched on. A couple of the threads have links to the diodes required but so far all the links seem to be invalid/not working. The diodes required are apparently 1N4001 types.

Having no real understanding of electrical components, can someone tell me if this is a suitable diode to use? Its labelled on the website as 1N4001S, not sure what the 'S' signifies?

That will do it :thumbup. the s I think means silicone. There is one listed as g and this is glass coated supsossed to be more reliable/hardy I used a G as the price is pence more. It is a great mod - I was weary of heating the relay contact too much though and the solder wouldn't stick you have to get it good and hot to get the solder to run and put the diode on at the last second other was the diode could over heat. Also did the Xenon mod and its much better (led in the side light to finish off). Would really like to upgrade the mains too but limited on space to put the ballasts etc. Only issue after my last night ride was the milage reset, so you need a good battery!!

Cheer dude!

I have two H3 26 SMD 3528 LED's in my 'high beam' lights but they are only 3W and not a 'focused' type LED, more of a 'directional' type which spills the light emitted out all around it. As such they don't light up the road much at all. I did have them in there to use as daytime running lights which they are excellent at but I'm now thinking of replacing them with a pair of HID's. All depends on how much night riding I do in the coming months, normally I hardly ride at all at night so will see how it goes and decide whether to grab a second HID kit to carry this out.

Carried out the mod this afternoon, took 5 mins tops. Used Mark's (redratbike) 'Jam it in' method without any hassle. Diode is as secure as it will get so no real need to solder. I pushed the end of the diode's wire into the correct slot where the top relay fits, making sure the white line was correctly orientated and then fitted the top relay on top of it so to speak. Then rinse and repeat for the next relay down. Final adjustments with a fine bladed screwdriver to ensure the diode wasn't going to be fouled by the plastic relay cover when it was refitted and that was it - job done! I did however manage to drop one of the tiny relay cover screws and it vanished away inside the top fairing somewhere. Oops!!

Anyway, works a treat. Apologies for the pictures, will grab some better ones tomorrow but you get the idea:-

Single, dipped light is a 6000k 35W HID. Parking light bulb is another multi SMD LED job. Apologies for rubbish pics, will take some better ones ASAP.
