Thinking of getting a Mille/RSVR

Hi guys been looking around an been wanting an aprilia for a fair long while now. First saw the original Mille back in '99 at a small bike shop in Kilburn, North London and instantly fell in love it. For some unknown reason I choose a Honda Firestorm over an RSVR a couple of years ago but now really want an Aprilia.

Got a of questions I hope you guys could help out with. Firstly I'm no short arse at 6'5ft but have always read that they are fairly large bikes. I sat on one for the first time this morning and it feels smaller than the Firestorm, but so we'll balanced and light. The biggest concern I have is my legs when on the pegs were fine against the tank but as soon as I need to use the brake or change gear my knees have to come out from the under cut on the tank....dam I hate being lanky buggar at times lol. Would a set of adjustable rearsets help with giving me a little more leg room?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Glynn

Rearsets prob would help, I'm a short bugger and have rear sets and leaves plenty of room. One of the best shaped tanks to grip onto when well cranked over with the outside leg. Go for the R version well worth the little extra IMHO. I was / am a Ducati 748/916 fan still love my 748 but the Mille is addictive, check out a few of my posts. You'll love it, once on the move you won't worry about your size. :thumbup

Hello
Fife Mille owner here ,typical Neanderthal figured middle aged bloke
Fits me fine , but I can see your dilemma , tried a tuono ?
The more upright position makes a difference

Hi Fife,

I'm also a previous firestorm owner (its what got me into twins) so ill add a few observations:

The seat height is similar between the 2 machines, though the mille feels more cramped due to the higher pegs and racier riding position. Adjustable rearsets may help, I tend to get sore legs if i'm in the saddle more than an hour.
The brakes and suspension are much improved over the VTR, no more bottoming out the front when heavy braking and the bike is alot less resistant to changing the line when going through a corner.
The Tank range is much better on the mille, maybe not a big deal if you had a newer VTR but I would often need to refill under 100 miles on the older shape (16 litre tank).
No cam chain tensioner worries :D
The Mille is a much better looking bike, I also remember seeing one in a bike shop in the late 90's and though it was fantastic. Sadly at that time the bike was many £££££ and I was an apprentice earning less than £350/month.

All things considered the Aprilia is a better bike.

Yeah get one

Hi guys thanks for the replies, I guess I'm getting an RSV :thumbup

Butchersdog I think I am leaning towards an RSVR but if a decent Mille comes along then who knows :biggrin

Mikee nice bike, where about a in Scotland are you? I like Tuono but prefer a full faired bike.

Rumple good to hear from a former Firestorm owner. I have the newer model so get around 125 miles and am tired of trying to hall it's fat butt around corners :biggrin . It has an SP1 front end and fireblade brakes and rims so stops pretty well, but feel like a giant brick at times!
