Thinking About Going Ape

Hello to all. I'm supposed to go look at a 2000 RSV Mille R with 19k miles this evening and am looking for some pointers. What should I look for to ensure the bike is OK. I may be trading a custom '98 Ducati 748 for the Aprilia. Other than gaining about 30 HP and shedding about 25 pounds, what am I gaining by moving from the Duc to the Ape?

Your dignity! lol no seriously, the aprilia for sure will be faster, the R comes with ohlins front n rear as standard, check the fork seals as you would on any bike.

Start it from cold, no odd knocks or rattles, thats about it really, they are pretty solid bikes, handle well, should be quite similar to what you've got only better!

Yep, starting's the thing. Do a cold start with full cold start lever (left bar) and NO throttle, should fire straight up. Any graunching and the sprag clutch needs fixing - a couple of hours work for a competant home mechanic and around £150 or less in parts. Also check the frame behind the rear brake and gear levers for marks and the swingarm for dents. Otherwise, just the usual checks really.
Comparision wise, you'll be going from the whiny, neurotic chick who isn't really that keen on *** to the ballsy bird who 'kin loves it:thumbup

Ooo, do I hear a few Duke owners spitting out their lattes in disgust?

as an ex 748 owner that sounds about right, micwhitt1, you won't regret it,

gordy.

I have the very same model mate, they are fantastic bikes. You'll love the extra grunt changing from a 748. Do it!
