Gents (and ladies),
The tale of woe has come to a fabulous conclusion. Back on Martin Luther King (MLK), I dropped my "Mistress" (as my wife calls her) on some recently sanded tight turns in the Angeles Forest north of Los Angeles. I was in deep mourning for many months. A good friend (Ducati owner and lover) did some wonderful replacement of parts and fixed the basic body, but to get her back in shape I took her to craftsman out here in the Antelope Valley (near Edwards AFB) who has does custom work on cars and bikes. They had it for a month but I was not in a hurry.
The end result is that they returned my mistress is competition show form (much better than when I bought her a couple years back - used 2003 Mille). They matched the paint, which I understand is a daunting task because aprilia will not sell it; they want you to buy the complete panel. But Angel and his son (Angel Jr) brewed magic in their cauldron to perfectly match the aprilia Red.
Now if I can figure out how to post a picture of their most excellent work.
