The Mille - She No Start From Hot

RSV 1000.

Here we go. Pissed off at the petrol station, pissed off when my mates knock the kill switch off for a joke. Pissed off with trying to bump start the ****** without the aid of a Rugby team.

Anyway, just bought this off my very good friend who dropped it at low speed (I felt sorry for him). Since then, there has been this annoying glitch. After a hard ride there is no start, just like the kill switch is off. No fuel pump, just nothing. Clutch in, nothing, side stand up/down no difference. Frantic presses of the kill switch :- Nada, nothing. Hammering, tapping, shaking. You guessed it... FA.

5-10 minutes later and it starts perfectly. I've searched the internet for some ideas, yes plenty of starting problems but I can't see anything like. It is very difficult to do diagnostics because the fault is hard to replicate and when it does happen, you can't get the bits off in time.

Suggestions please Anybody, anybody...???

hi boom ,try cleaning your battery terminals make sure there clean and tight and Battery Solenoid clean and tight all earths from battery need to be good also ,even look at the back of ignition make sure nothing loose there .starter switch on the handle bar strip and clean give it a spray ptfe white greese. its got to be a Electrical Problem for sure mate ,hope you find it bud summers on its way :) oh are you getting ignition lights mate ?

Thanks my good man. I'm hoping to emigrate to Spain later in the year, I don't speak Spanish yet so I'll be fukd if it breaks and I'm up a mountain. Hoping to enjoy many days on the Jerez track, mind. Seems bizarre it only happens when hot.

Ignition lights, all normal. Just like it wants to take a break from riding.

I reckon the switch internals got twatted when it went down on the right hand side.

Hi mate, it might be the side stand switch.
It could be failing when it gets hot.
Next time it happens short across the 2 sides of the switch (or just get a new one/ wire it out)

Thanks Adz, I'll give wiring it out a go. I guess it's just a process of elimination.

Yes mate, it's a pain though.
It's always tricky when the fault is intermittent, too.
Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.

I shall document my trials and tribulations as soon as the weather gets better. Thank you once again for the suggestion.

turn your bike upside down mate and hit the start button could be that your tilt switch has been fitted the wrong way up lol

That's a good one, I believe it is called an inclination sensor. I didn't realise it had one, but thinking about it makes sense. I bet that is the problem, especially as it only started happening since he dropped it. Wasn't as lucky with the previous T595 though which went down an embankment and carried on running. One set of bottom ends later...

Thanks for the advice.

Knowing my mate (previous owner) you aren't far from the truth there. It is a REAL possibilty.
