when did Aprilia stop putting the old Rotax engine in the RSVR. I was reading an article in Bike Magazine on the testing of twins and I get the impression that newer bikes have a different powerhouse. Is that right?

No mate, the rotax is still used or was upto and on the 2007 models......but Aprilia are ditching rotax and have designed and built there own engine, not sure if its in the 2008 models or if its coming at a later date, but think its still the rotax at the moment :thumbup

Don't understand the article then. It states the 07 on test has a "different" engine??

I think the engine was tweaked slightly(different size valves) in 06,but it's still a Rotax engine

As far as im concerned it should still be the rotax unit in a 2007 model mate, ill go buy the mag and have a read :thumbup

It is BIKE mag, the one with the free first edition free with it. Actually quite interesting, especially the twins test with an RSV, a KTM and a 1098 and an 848 Duke.

Got mine at Tesco's this morning :thumbup

im assuming you are reffering to the june issue where it tests the 1098, 848, RC8 and RSV Factory??

i was just reading it and could not spot anything which suggests a different engine, except saying the older milles had lower power but supposedly more torque and less revs

i am pretty sure its still the rotax engine, but they did tweak it in a few ways with the 2004 update and i think there were a few minor changes with the 2006 update aswell.

i heard they are discontinuing the rsvr at the end of 2008 nooo
at least the v4 will be available then (i hope..) and then there really will be a different engine hehehe

I will re-read it then, but to be fair I was feeding a baby and arguing with my wife at the time LOL

give the wife the baby's dummy and stick the baby on your wifes...
might have to run fast though :biggrin

i gotta admit i didnt read the article completely, i get fed up with so much bias towards the 1098 being the best thing in existance :dowhat read the bits about the factory though and i kinda like the paint scheme :inlove

You've got a good ride Stew Dan got his from Tesco's in Yorkshire:thumbup

they are building there own engines and are discontinuing with rotax all the milles still have rotax at the moment
wolf they all love the 1098 but hey they bottled it in mcn though mate blaming tyres sounds like there scared and they were using the r aswell and the four year old mille still won the test:thumbup
maybe scared at what the rc8 could do but even that finished behind the mille

It's not so much that they are ditching the rotax but that there is no bike for it after 2008. The RSV, Tuono is out of production.
2008 bikes have the same as previous years.

The engine became the Magnesium version in 04 and got 57mm throttles then bigger valves in 06. Since then apart from playing with minor details it's been pretty much the same.

Their own vtwin is in the shiver at the moment and although they have a 1200 version in the wings it makes less power than the current motor (by some way) so not suitable for a sports bike in it's current form. Last i heard BMW were getting their hands on it to jointly develop it for future models.

I think it's less than certain that their is a twin sports bike even on the radar to replace the RSV. As off a month ago Aprilia UK were saying the factory have made no noises about producing a Tuono, RSV replacement. their will deffo not be one in 2009 at least.
