Tappet adjustment

Hi guys
Has anyone had to do their tappets if so how easy?:dunno

Did you find they needed doing?:dunno

If so how far out which way and what sort of mileage?:dunno

I am sure someone out there has done them themself or paid an arm and leg to have them done but was it neccessary:confused

i think the service schedule originally had a check at 9000miles but this was then raised to 12000 but i'm not positive on that so wait for others t confirm.

I just had mine done, 2hours labour was not too bad. The front rocker cover can be a ***** to get off.

oh and only one needed very slight adjusting.

What did you have to pay to have clearances checked/adjusted? What model?

It's not that hard just time consuming and with a few potential pitfalls if you don't lock the timeing chain to the cam sprocket whilst doing it etc.
You need to move the rad for access as well.

You will need a selection of shims in case they need adjusting. More often that not if they need adjusting is because they have tightened rather than the other way.

My local Aprilia dealer quoted £380 to do it as part of service.
Do rsv's tend to be a little noisy? I would say mine sounds a little tappety from the front cylinder, i'm 2k mls from major service interval. Better start saving.

Hey guys,you'd love my local Ape dealer,their idea of checking tappets is putting a screwdriver on the engine and saying ' no,not much noise,they don't need looking at' :jack

When asked 'well what about if they've tightened up then?' all you get is blank stares and they back away. :confused

Note to self, must get down to Griffs ASAP.

I live in the North East and should really think about a TB Sync followed with a valve check and adjust

I have 8.5K on the clocks but there is no Aprilia dealer I would dare take it too

(Without an overnight stay)

Perhaps Griff the Great is my best option when he next tours the North East and Borders
