Tank bag issues

Hi guys.

As most of you know I'm new to the world of the millie and I have a plastic tank. Now I'm off to the alps in 2 months time and need some luggage. To this end I need a rear seat for my tail pack (anyone got a gash seat knocking about? doesn;t matter if it's ripped as I have no pillion pegs). I also need a tank bag. What solutions work best? There is obviously the baglux option but they seem very expensive and there are these new brackets which fit to the fuelcap and the bag clips on. Anyone got one of these? do they work?

Also I did think about maybe buying an old scrached 2000 (metal) tank. lobbing that on my bike so i can use my own magnetic tank bag. The larger fuel capacity will come in very handy too. Please can I have the benfit of your experience peeps?

Cheers in advance

Monkey.

I was thinking more ebay for a scratched/slightly dinged tank for the trip and then swap back when i get home.

The older tank wil fit but you'll need the brackets, riders seat and side panels too.

The Oxford Humpback tankbag with the "strap on" base is a doddle to fit and use with your plastic tank

Yeah i wouldnt do it M8 could you imagine breakdown in france due to a tank leak or something related to it.

Just get a few straps and bobs your dads brother

Sweet. cheers guys. The oxford distribution center is 4 miles from my house so i'll pop in. see if there's a factory shop.

Cheers for the advice

I have a baglux tank cover in red. £30. I may have a tank bag too... will have to check.

I carry about 10 - 15 kg of climbing gear in mine.

if you need the rear seat pad call eddy at Taz peterborough (used parts Dept) as he has one kicking about, tell him i told you... hes a good guy to know

Other option is to get an old rear seat or reat unit, get a GIVI mounting plate and attach it.

Then get yourself a GIVI back box and use that instead of a tank bag.

Works for me, and doesnt effect the handling or the sitting position...

Flick. Was that you bought a bagglux cover for £30 or are selling one for £30? if you have that and a largeish tankbag for sale I'll love you foreever. If you're nearish to oxford I'll pick it up. Failing that I'll paypal you mate.

PM some details please dude if your selling. Cheers bud.

Why don't you get yourself some kriega luggage, they do awesome tailpacks also they do a converter to change a tailpack into a tankbag.
I think the website is www.kriega.com
I can personally vouch for the kit, it's top notch and will probably work out cheaper than the other options you've mentioned :thumbup

I bought a cheap buffalo one for touring in Morocco last Summer. It's got whacking great magnets in it that were great for my old SRAD and pretty pointless on a plastic tank...
there's a strap on the bag that goes round the headstock and I secure it with the bungy cords that came with it. they hook under the recesses in the fairing and dont foul the fairing or seem to rub anywhere. I've done hundreds of miles with it like that and had no problems.

I got a grab rail off flea bay for a tenner... it bolts on to the fairing bolts under the cowl/seatpad. It makes my bike look like a lawnmower but it's fecking enormous; you could strap anything to that. I've had two push bikes, a ladder and a canoe on there before now.

Not in the slightest...

But while you are getting all your luggage soaked, and trying your hardest to strap it on. Or sitting with ya neck nesting on a massive tank bag...

I will be..............

Not at all worried about the rain, and able to take the back box off in a matter of seconds...

So no.. I ain't shitting ya!!! :biggrin

I use a kriega tail pack on my 02 Mille. Top quality, goot fit and there's a tank bag conversion for £15 quid I think. As a Tail pack you get 20 litres as standard, plus another 2 x 10 litre add-ons (at extra cost).

E-man is right.

Several rides with Badgers lot in sunny.....ahem.....Scotland where several Mille guys had KTM type branded /copies (Givi rebranded, so good stuff) top boxes made me go that route. I bought a ripped rear seat unit of the bay of fleas, then took the foam and ripped cover off, where I am bolting a Givi base plate to it and using a 37litre top box.

Fully waterproof, big enough for a weeks touring, takes seconds to take off and put on and is as secure as the royal mint on a bad day.

As I don't use the rear underseat stowage (It's full of Dynojet PCIII & Inforad) I get two longer M5 bolts and put them through the seat unit and into the bolt holes that hold the rear plastics onto the frame. It's absolutely rock solid and is a good back rest if you so want. (Keep a socket in the toolkit in the bottom of the top box and you can still remove it if you needed too......absolutely excellent, no pissing about in the rain whilst those who have humpbacks etc faff about with straps etc.

I have a Full set of Oxford panniers and a hump back if you want it, used just once excellent condition-PM me with an offer if you are crazeeee enough to not take our advice on the top box.

If you check out "bikersoracle" and search for top box you will find the posts relating to this.......LINK HERE

I sold my Oxford Humpback tankbag and paniers last year. The tankbag was fine but the panniers were just a nightmare. I've gone down the topbox route now and i must say it's brilliant
