Swingarm swap

How easy a job is it to swap the swingarm on a 2000 Mille? I know the chain has to be split and I need a socket for the pivot nut (BMX freewheel tool already on order!) but I notice the rear exhaust downpipe goes down through the arm. What bits of the exhaust do I need to remove?

Thanks

loosen the rear downpipe..front one may have to be removed ,take the exhaust collector off under the engine ..you may then be able to jiggle the swingarm down over the down pipe if not it will need removing

Can anyone confirm if the 2000 and 2001-03 arms are interchangeable? I have just noticed the part numbers for the arms are different - 8135918 (2000) and 8146295 (01-03). All the other parts on the fiche - bearings, pivot sleeve, spindle etc are the same for both models.

And one more thing - supporting the bike. I can't use the garage roof as it's not strong enough, and obviously can't use the swingarm pivot as it has to come out. However, my bike has long crash bungs fitted behind the fairing panels, presumably on the rear engine mount bolts. Would they take the weight if I supported it on a couple of car axle stands under the bungs? They do seem very sturdy.

Personally I wouldn't support it using the crash bungs, they're only engine bolts after all!! If you have one, the Abba stand has an adapter that fits into the foot rest mounts allowing you to remove the swingarm, bit expensive to have to buy the lot if you don't have the stand already though :)

Would it be possible to support it on the seat frame, as close to the frame as possible? A length of sturdy tube through the bike and stands on each end? Tie the front brake on to stop it escaping? Just a thought, it might not be feasible.
