APRILIA / RSV 1000 2004-2005
Manufacturer : APRILIA USA, INC.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 05V538000 Mfr's Report Date : OCT 31, 2005
Component: SUSPENSION:REAR
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 877
Summary:
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, WHILE IN USE THE SWING ARM COMPONENT MAY DEVELOP A STRESS FRACTURE OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
Consequence:
IF NOT REPLACED THIS WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURIES OR DEATH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SWING ARM COMPONENT. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS MAY CONTACT APRILIA AT 770-592-2261.
Notes:
CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
I have attached two photos in hopes of assisting owners of '04 RSVR, and RSVR Factory models who are unsure if their bike has already had it's swingarm repalced.
The bad swingarms have two rivnuts installed on the inside of the chain side of the swingarm.
The good swingarms have only one. Because of the location of the toe guard bracket it can be difficult to see if the second rivnut is present, but you should be able to tell without any dissassembly.
