Swingarm needle bearings

Does anyone know where to get 4 sets and seals at a reduced rate on the RIP OFF aprilia price.

I am going to service the swing arm and I know the back 2 bolts are ******.

If you can get one out intact, look in yellow pages and find your nearest bearing stockist. Take one along and they'll be able to match it and save you quite a few bob. They may have to order them in but waiting a day or two is no big deal is it?
I did this when I rebuilt my KTM last year and saved £30 odd over the KTM price IIRC.

do you know that the needle bearings have had it?

i've just order them for the mount on swingarm for link plates and weren't that dear

are you meaning the swingarm or linkage ?

The linkage uses torrington hk1812v which is avaiable at any bearing shop easily. Aprilia use metal seals but most bearing shops will have rubber versions which work just as well.
If you mean the swingarm it's a mixture of the above bearings and HK3026 which again is readilly avalable.

Just make sure they are open and not caged bearings they supply as you can get both.

use a waterproof grease when repacking or they will rust. White lithium or marine grease is good.

Update on that is the uncaged version is a protected part (aprilia patent) but several bearing shops have made them up by removing the cage and just adding more needles on the standard bearing. Just looked up the Aprilia price as well and it's not that bad.

Jesus Spoonz, you either have access to all things Aprilia or you have a serious database on your PC. Well done mate whichever it is!

It is defeinately the linkage bearings. The back 2 bolt ones are shot to bits.

Whats the best way to get them out?

a drift or a socket the same size as the cage. tap them out with a rubber mallet or similar.

You will wreck the seals getting them out so make sure you order new ones.

Spoonz,

What's the V at the end of the torrington hk1812v?

I looked on that link you provided and some others too but cannot see a HK1812V bearing.

the v means uncaged.

If you look at the update on my previous post i mentioned the uncaged version is a protected part made especially for Aprilia so you will either have to get a nice bearing shop that will make them up for you or buy from Aprilia.
Torrington will not sell the supplier the V spec bearing direct

Cheers Spoonz,

Don't suppose you have a picture of the bearing (Uncaged) and is it not possible to just purchase the caged version and remove the outer cage ourselves?

PS. Just looked at the cost of these bearings from Aprilia, £12.78 each isn't too bad for something that is replaced once every blue moon.

Is it worth the hassle? Perhaps not but it is nice to know we can source from alternate providers just in case Aprilia go to the wall.

yes i have a couple of new bearing here so i'll put up a pic shortly.

You can remove the cage but then there won't be enough needle rollers so more will need to be added by the supplier if he is willing to do that.

I got my Aprilia versions for about £8 from memory from a dealer.

I think for all thew messing about I am just going to buy Aprilia ones,

Dan

Bearing pic.

Not the clearest but you can see it's full compliment needle wise.
